For a while I have been making the case in this joint for Bene to be a full time corner opposite Josh Norman. After all, he was one of the highest rated corners in the entire league last season.

Many told me no, Bene was a nickel, the Panthers would be drafting a corner. Well, that didn't happen.

In fact, the Panthers drafted a nickel of sorts, Shaq Thompson, to fill in for those Buffalo packages.

If Bene were to play only nickel, he would play around 30% of the total snaps. He is way to talented a kid for that.

The good news is Bene is coming into the studio on Tuesday for a long form interview on the huddle podcast. We will be getting his take directly.

Would like to see him and Tillman alternate starting, depending on the opponent's #2 WR. If it's a taller, bigger, slower guy that could outmuscle Bene, then put Tillman on him. If the guy's a smaller, faster guy that could outrun Tillman, have Bene cover him.

I think a lot of people who said that meant that he would be outside in base and slide in for nickel rather than exclusively the third CB. And considering that AJ, Chase, and Glanton only played in 40% of 2014 defensive snaps the Panthers were in nickel 55-60% of the time.

Rob Ryan already tried the eleven safety approach :unsure:

 

 

I don't know what that is but I envision this with 4 down lineman. 3 linebackers capable of blitzing or covering. Then Tillman, Bene, J Norman, and a single safety. We play so much zone Tillman and Norman can drop into a cover three.

 

I think last year you could make the point our vulnerability on third and long was the tight end. Getting more linebackers on the field gets more tackling for the Jimmy Grahams and Luke Willsons.

      PJ's completion % was 63% when starting games in Carolina.  Which I believe is better than Bryce when starting.  And again, 4-3 as the starter here and the LONE QB Carolina has been able to actually win with in the Tepper era.  If you ask a gambling gunslinger to come into blowouts.....they are going to go down in a blaze of glory.  Which he would do.  Yeah, he isn't good.  And gunslingers are supposed to have rockier stats than checkdown QBs.   So....why does PJ Walker have a better comp % as a starter than Bryce Young.  And for every knock you want to make about PJ, you can find something or a skillset that PJ does better than Bryce.   I didn't say PJ had good field vision.  He doesn't.  Tell me about Bryce after he comes off the first read lol.  Let me repeat, PJ Walker is not a good QB.  He is NFL depth and an in house arm.  Bryce Young doesn't belong in a convo w/ Jake and Cam.  He belongs closer in a convo with the backup caliber QBs Carolina was forced into playing.  Which isn't just PJ Walker.  But Kyle Allen.  Moore.  Guys like that.

      Oh I see what you meant by memory. I will trust my memory, I have looked a a lot of those ball charts for Bryce and they trend a general pattern. They thing that has changed that I have noticed more recently is the reduction in the bunching of behind or at  the LOS passes over to his right.  Aside from the quantity of throws recently since the running game has become a more dominant factor.

      Yes but you basically said you are going from a quick skim of those charts without doing the same for Bryce and/or Andy. So you are going memory vs. snapshots. That's not going to be a very comprehensive analysis.
