2016 NFL Draft Prosects

Brandon Shell, RT, South Carolina (6'6 327 lbs, 3-year starter)

Pharoh Cooper, WR, South Carolina (5'11 208 lbs, 3-year starter) BEAST

Yessir, would love to have Cooper on the squad but if he continues to perform at the level he has in the past, he will be the one of the top receivers taken in the draft next year, hands down. The kid is so damned explosive with the ball in his hands. That happens, we would have to have a horrible season to have a legitimate shot at snagging him. Even though I'm a lifelong Gamecock fan, I'm a  Panther fan too, so I'm not willing to concede to that. lol

Can't help but think his production might suffer a bit with a young an inexperienced QB like Mitch throwing him the ball next season. We shall see.

Shell would be a great pickup as well. SOLID tackle. Have watched every snap the kid has taken since his high school days down in Goose Creek. He comes back strong from his surgery, puts it all together again this coming season and performs well at the combine, he should definitely be given a Round 2-3 grade. He'll definitely deserve it. Week in and week out for the last 3 years (35 consecutive starts) he has tusseled with some of the best D-Lineman to roll through the SEC and been very successful at it. Shell is also a very bright and humble kid (2 time SEC Academic Honor Roll member, Sociology major) who has always kept his nose to the grind and done the right things on and off of the field.

I only know about two names. Ronnie and Drango. As of right now, it's not even close to this past draft.

OTs for next year FA is gonna be stout. Hopefully Gman will go that route:

Trent Williams

Andre Smith

Nate Solder

Russell Okung

Matt Kalil

Cordy Glenn

Yet another example of Getts thinking past the present moment or year. All of this year's picks have a purpose in '15, but their true value will be in the years beyond.

Also, no way youre going to convince me that Fisher or Donovan Smith would be a better addition than the draftees/FA class of '16.  And this is coming from a guy that was driving the Jake Fisher bandwagon back in January.

Cooper is really a fuging beast from day one.

P. Cooper is going to end up a better prospect than A. Cooper who just got drafted imo. My rating system has P. Cooper at a 1.4975 score while A. Cooper ended up with a 1.7525 score.

    • Dang, we might not be able to create the same magic from last year!
    • If we were a solid winning organization most of us would have no problems with this selection. We would have had a capable starter in place to allow him to be eased into the rotation. If were told prior to the draft that he had been completely cleared health wise, we "probably" wouldn't have a ton of reservations about this selection. If we had picked this young man on Day 3 of the draft most of us would have no problems with this selection because we wouldn't have had to use draft capital to move up and get him. Unfortunately, none of the above were true 1)  We were a terrible team in 2023 and needed an immediate impact player. 2)  He was hurt near the the end of the 2023 NCAA season. We traded up to get him even though we knew he wasn't medically cleared to play in 2024. 3) When training camp started we were hearing stories that the knee wasn't ready. That alone should have raised some red flags. I personally would have red-shirted him in 2024 in order to have him ready for 2025. We had Chubba as our lead back and other guys to fill the #2 and #3 spots on the depth chart. There was no need to rush Brooks unto the field in 2024. Here's our draft history in the 2nd round between 2021 and 2024 2021 TMJ 2022 No draft choice. We picked Matt Corall in round 3 (#94) as our only Day 2 pick. 2023 Jonathan Mingo 2024 Jonathon Brooks. We have taken 4 skill players on Day 2 of the draft for the past 4 years who have contributed absolutely nothing to the offensive side of the football. 3 are no longer on the team. Two of them are no longer in the NFL. One  could possibly never start a game due to a knee injury. This type of poor drafting is why this team has been so bad for the entire decade.
    • Even limited as he was I still don't think they have replaced his production, and not just the sack stats. The games Clowney missed it was very obvious what his value still was. Risky move but whatever. They only had 32 sacks last year and if that drops then it's going to get ugly. I see the improvement in run stopping but not in pass protect in any way.
