Miami Dolphins sign QB Ryan Tannehill to extension

Drew Brees salary cap hit won't destroy this team. See is teh best ever gawd, and Mickey Loomis is a genius.

-Saints fans, circa 2012

Drew Brees contract didn't destroy the team, although that was a good way to deflect from the actual discussion at hand. Cams contract will dwarf Drews. Looking at QB contracts around the league, what is wrong with Drews?

You got a lot of posters here living in the past on how they view the cap.

A lot of you guys will be in complete sticker shock when you see cams deal but I guarantee you that it will not destroy the team for the future. You guys just need to get that through your head and understand that every team with a young qb they feel is their franchise guy will be getting paid this amount.

I guess no one has actually watched Tannehill play and they just assume he sucks.

I think many have literally only seen him play in the game against us in 2013. And he was absolutely horrible that game. Wallace burned our secondary at least a dozen times and Tannehill missed him every single time. His deep ball has gotten a little bit better (but is still bottom 5 in the league, if not the worst) and his short-intermediate accuracy is good and solid decision making so this contract is reasonable. If he's getting this much I see Cam getting right around $20M/year which would be a great deal in my opinion. People were tossing around $25M/year for Luck and Wilson and more for Cam a little while ago. And now it seems the Seahawks are playing hardball with Wilson and won't come near his demanded price (north of $20M/year) and will play the franchise tag game with him, so it'll be interesting to see what these guys all get.

Tannehill is actually a pretty good young QB. Cam, Luck, & Wilson ate the only young QBs I'd take over him.

What is Miami supposed to do? Get rid of him next year because he's not gonna be a top 5 QB & start over with a far less talented rookie or FA?

There aren't many good QBs out there. You gotta pay them when you get 'em.

6/96 is only an average of $16MM. That's a very good deal for both sides.

Remember the fans here who used to say "stats are meaningless, just give me the wins!!!" through Newton's first 2 seasons and a rookie of the year award?

Imagine the outrage if we had thrown nearly $50 million guaranteed at him without a single playoff appearance or winning record lol.

Nothing.

People are not realistic about the times in which we live.  This is not 10 years ago (or even five), the salary cap is continually increased for a reason.  Everyone is getting paid more, so of course a franchise QB is going to account for the biggest percentage of the cap.

People don't want to hear it, but Tannehill and Cam have statistical numbers that are in the same ballpark. I expect Cam's contract to be in the same ballpark.

He has 67 total career touchdowns and 42 interceptions.

And he just got $45 million guaranteed.

The same posters that think that this kind of contract is what Cam is "worth" also believe that 29/19 = 22/21.

(The above numbers are passing TDs + rushing TDs/interceptions thrown + fumbles lost, average per season)

Wait, you think your first post in this thread was "discussion"?

I guess Aint's fans are exactly as stupid as I thought.

Rookies and Bad QB's are going to make less than 10 mill per year.

Good QB's are going to make between 16-18 mill per year

The Alex Smith, Tannehill (is a good young QB) , Carson Palmers, Andy Daltons.  Romo is there as well. There are others in this range,

The Great QB's are going to make 20 +mill Depending on  contract.

Flacco, Roethlisburger, Matt Ryan(giggles), Peyton "he can still play " Manning, Drew "its almost over" Brees.  Not to mention the baddest of them all

notables:

Collin Kaepernick is making 19 mill per year.  Even though it's cut friendly and I don't think he could hold Cam's jockstrap.  Still 19 Mill per year.

Jay Cutler 18 mill per.  Anyone in Chicago who had anything to do with this contract needs to be fired.  I don't care if it's the lady in the front office who's only job it was to fax the contract to the league office.  Everyone needs to be fired.

The upcomming:

Andrew all the Luck --  Gonna make at least 21 per.  Most likely

Russell Wilson --  He's trying to cash out.  Calls Jay Cutler's contract the starting point> :startle:

TLDR:

Cam is going to make between 19-22 Mill per year.  Suck it up.

I have a feeling a lot of those people would be fine with it if tannehill was the QB in Carolina.

    • I know we're in the hopium phase of the year right now but this is all over the game film that every defense we face is going to be waiting for. If Bryce keeps doing this sooner or later we are going to be stuck arguing over why this or that receiver sucks because they can't bail out Bryce all the time. Legette would just be next in line. Bryce is a first overall pick. He's got to figure out how to get some more torque out of his arm. These yarns about his frame and this and that just seem like an excuse to justify him not wanting to lift weights. He's got to match the output of his offensive counterparts who have been putting in the work.
    • Well, if we'd sat Bryce then we'd have gone 17~0 on the way to Superb Owl win!  Of course right? Honestly, it's one of those Schrodinger's Cat situations.  There are an infinite number of possibilities that it could have been between: Worse and Better.   Dalton would have looked better.  We'd have won more games.  Reich would probably be going into year two with Scott Fitterer at GM.  Would we be a be a better team? We would have zero idea if Bryce was the dude, kind of where we are now.  Except Bryce would not have had as much adversity.  With QBs in the NFL, you don't have much time to evaluate.  You used to be able to sit guys for a year or two, but now a days, you are up and playing week 1. I think we'd be in worse shape honestly.  I like how things are going right now under D&D.  I am not sure Fitterer would have done any better in FA or the Draft or if Reich would have shown his coaching acumen any better in 2024. So instead of changing the past, we have to keep looking forward.  Learn the lessons from the past, but keep moving forward.
