Humble Cam?

No, but neither could Favre, Elway or Delhomme.  Favre and Elway both got rings and Jake came pretty close.

Newton is never going to be the kind of pinpoint accurate passer that guys like Brees and Rodgers are.  He'll always be one of the occasionally perfect, occasionally way off but mostly "general vicinity" guys like the ones mentioned above.

And that's okay, because history has shown us that those guys can win Super Bowls.

To be clear, the Panthers are well aware that Newton isn't a 'needle threader' and they're building around him accordingly.

That guy is just trolling.

I've seen Newton make incredible passes, and he's definitely threaded some needles on several occasions.

He just hasn't been able to do it consistently, we saw flashes early on last year before the injuries. This is his year to prove himself now.

I really hope Newton does "prove himself" this year.  To be brutally honest, I still can't judge him fully.  I don't know if he is what he has been, or whether he is what he thinks he his---what many people think that he can become.  If he doesn't "prove himself" this year, then the main question will be whether or not fans are willing to accept---with open arms---today's Cam (and all of the good and bad that comes with him).  I believe that I am.

As usual the comments are golden because the haters come out in full force anytime there is an article about Cam and especially a mostly positive one. Love how it always evolves into a Luck greater than Newton debate. It's already been over 3 years since these two both played in the same NFL. Do you guys think that we will get to listen to the same nonsense 10 years from now? I really want Cam to be the better of the 2 quarterbacks, but not because I dislike Luck, because I don't. I just want to see pie on the faces of all those that dislike Cam for no good reason. He is our quarterback and I am thankful he is. Never been a better time to be a Panthers fan!

The idiot david glenn was going off on Cam today on his show talking about Cams ego.  Can you imagine the narcissistic egomaniac glen complaining about someone else's ego ?  I had to shut the radio off.

If a tree (Glenn) falls in the woods but no one is there, does it make a sound?

Sounds to me like something his agent has been saying to Gman.

Bottom line for NFL.com or ESPN is the numbers.  One winning season and a .500 record are not something they are gonna crow about.

This is the season that Cam needs to come through, not only for the team and fans, but for himself and his contract.

This makes no fuging sense. Its like some people are oblivious to everything.

The fact that some are suggesting that this young man not verbalize self-confidence and his uniqueness, is very telling. "Fans", even. Beta-males are overly concerned with others' opinions. Cam is not concerned. Oh and to those still bitching because he doesn't speak the queens english perfectly, get over your fuging selves.

    • I agree.  Some situations are all we should ask--shadow the qb (someone suggested that) or cover a TE, or blitz from the big nickel position.  Forget S, edge, CB,LB--
    • I work with social emotional learning and I don't know why a player with all the tools (to Snow's point) sucks when he was a top 10 player in college.  It is not talent, and it is usually not due to some learning disability-.  It comes down to dispositions or emotions in a lot of cases. The reason I pointed out Simmons in particular is because he was drafted to be a DC's new weapon.  I have friends who played in the NFL and they talk about the amount they throw at you--and those were guys who played 1 position.  Simmons shows his ability on special teams--where you are a bit more turned loose than scripted or forced to read blocking schemes or pass routes, etc.  See ball, get ball.  Simmons has been tried at CB, nickel, S , LB edge and he has had 5 different coordinators if you do not count the STs guy.  This would overwhelm most people.  Nobody knows what it does to your confidence and motivation to go from the best player on your team and a top college player to getting cut.   I just think that players like this can be saved.  To say, "He just isn't good" is not to answer the question, "Why was this not noticed during the interviews?  game film?  Combine?  References?  etc.  No, there has to be something more to it than that.  I think Isaiah needs one job and that job should be aligned with a strength.  If he fails then, fine.  Maybe he lost his mojo.  Maybe he never had it.  But to understand what he has been through is to give the guy the benefit of the doubt.  If you played in high school, you got a happy meal version of what it is like in college.  College was an appetizer when compared to pros.  We shall see.  But I am more optimistic about Simmons than I am XL.  Simmons was asked to things most NFL players cannot do.  XL just needs to catch the damn ball in bounds.   Middle schoolers do it every day.
    • This was a super interesting analysis....and I will say I dont think it prevents us from looking at Safety in the draft. IF Ransom takes a step up and outplays Moehrig, there is an out for them after the year as a potential cap cut.  EVEN if not, if you are right and Simmons shows some promise as a Big nickel and Moehrig gets  injured and Ransom looks good (or even if Moehrig looks bad) I could see him being a cap casualty in 2027 as long as we feel we have enough talent there as starting potential.  Lotta football to play and Lotta injuries to happen.  Im hopeful because his measurables are through the roof, but unless they translate you still gotta go with what you got.
