Even if we have Ward in the backfield with Stew and have Olsen, KB and either Ginn,Philly or Hill they cannot put 8 in the box' who can hold KB one on one and you definitely need help over top of our fast 3' Or we can go without Olsen when Wards in so we can play even faster with KB and two fast receivers' someone one on one deep... I love Hill all-day one on one if he catches the durn ball!!!! Same with Ginn lol catch the ball please now Philly is spot on but stay on your feet'

So why are we talking about cutting Tolbert to make room for Ward when the better option was mentioned in the article, cut Brockel?

I think if the coaches believe he deserves a roster spot giving him Brockel's spot would make more sense.

(Not that I'm advocating getting rid of either just yet)

If anyone actually believes that Tolbert should be cut for this unproven undrafted guy... then you probably believed McNutt could be a #1.

There's no correlation whatsoever. And look at how much each is getting paid.

There aren't 2 definite roster spots for the position. We have so much talent at WR now we might want to keep 6 so someone's got to go somewhere else. If Ward can truly be a beast lead-blocking FB, and Tolbert continues to be ineffective (and he was last season) then we should only keep him. I don't see any reason to keep Brockel, to be honest. All this is assuming that Ward is actually any good though. We haven't seen him in pads so this could possibly end up not being a debate at all.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
