NFC South Recieving Corps

Sirius XM's Moving the Chains talk show ranked the receivers in the NFC South yesterday Results were:

Pat Kirwan

1.Falcons

2.Bucs

3 Panthers

4 Saints

Jim Miller

1. Panthers

4. Saints

Its hard for me to see our group above Atlanta's and equally hard to see the Saints at the bottom. It should be noted that Jim Miller was a QB and should have a good eye for receiving talent. Either way it looks like Cam has weapons this year compared to the rest of the division.

Millers Knock on the Falcons was Roddy Whites injury history. Kirwan was worried about Funchess's speed and being able to get open off the line.

Based strictly on receivers, I might give TB an edge over us based on Jackson being a known commodity for them and Funchess being an unknown rookie with potential. If Greg gets thrown in there, then I'd say we are number 2 behind Atlanta.

Atlanta really has Julio jones, white, Hester and Hardy and a  bunch of guys the rest of the way at WR and TE.  They could end up first depending on how Hardy plays and whether White stays healthy. We match up pretty well with Benjamin, Funchess, Ginn and Brown. Where we exceed them is adding in Olsen who we use primarily as a receiver  and is the best TE in the division right now. 

Tampa may have as much talent at WR and TE as Atlanta or us but didn't have a quarterback who could throw the ball. And the Saints receivers are Not that great athletically outside of Cooks and maybe Colston but up until last year Brees was able to make them look better than they were and they had Jimmy Graham. Hard to say what they will do in 2015.

interesting that Kirwin who I like thinks Funchess's  speed is an issue given he usually watches lots of film and would see that he plays faster than he showed at the combine. I guess that will be his knock until he shows folks that speed is not his biggest issue and his hands are very solid.

I will give ATL the nod for now but after Funchess has a breakout year, we'll easily be the #1 group in the NFCS.

Atlanta is first. I think Tampa is probably second now until we actual see Funchess out there but we have more potential. Saints are last, which feels odd but great at the same time.

Dickson did not start to get it late last year because that is not his intended role. He was brought in to be a blocker/fullback and not a pass catching TE.

not true, he was definitely brought in to catch passes and be an all around TE which includes blocking. He became a pure blocker due to injuries.
