I'm calling a Panther fan roundtable to order: Friends, why are we still so bad at special teams?

I made a thread on the Huddle last year detailing how awful we've always finished in Special Teams DVOA. We've averaged something like 30th in the league under Rivera.

With a lot of hype for a new and improved special teams coming into this season, we were at 25th in DVOA coming in to today's game and I'm sure we'll be 29th at best looking at how these rankings go historically after a god-awful performance like this. How is that we're still so terrible at kick and punt coverage? How? Seriously, how? I have no answers or opinions for a change, I just wanna know HOW IS THIS STILL HAPPENING? THIS WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN CLOSE IF WE HAD PINNED THEM ON THE 8 INSTEAD OF A TOUCHDOWN THANKS TO MOTHERFUGGING TEDDY WILLIAMS MOTHERFUGGING BRAD NORTMAN MOTHERFUGGING COVERAGE UNIT

We're not, that's just what you get when the refs call a BS penalty and the fresh legged returner gets to take on your tired punt coverage unit. If you remember the play before the penalty we nailed him at the 6.

That was because he muffed the punt, we had nothing to do with that. And there were at least 2 other big returns they had, one was on a kickoff, both might have been 35/40 yard kickoff returns.

    • Two things: 1. Dr. Eric Eager is central to the draft process 2. I know that it was edited, but we didn't hear "Thieneman" one time, not even before the Vikings pick.
    • Why would he sign here as a guard when surely someone would sign him as a tackle?  Assuming he is healthy
    • Went back to watching the highlights. With a sober mind haha. Here is what I saw.    freddie needs to make 1 of those but the rest aren’t on him.    Slavin was BBBBAAAD again last night. Not sure what is going on with these game one Slavin gafs.    miller was ok but had his worst game in the playoffs so far.    nikishin was no good. His his awful turnover led to the first goal at the end of the first period that just can’t happen. ghost was beat like a drum multiple times last night, including the go-ahead goal at the end jarivs wont shoot. He is either hurt or he is struggling mentally and I think it could be a combination of both. He passed up a wide open net on the power-play only to pass it to no one and cleared it himself.     Svech played well. He is getting zero help on that line.    aho. Worst game as a pro. I mean that. He won’t shoot it, passes go to no one and turns it over repeatedly.  He did exactly what they did against Montreal game one when Miller had a turnover. Aho left his man to go help and left the golden Knight player wide open in front of Freddie.  If I was Rod, you Tell Aho when that thing hits your stick you fire it  someone needs to sit him down just him in a room and ask what’s going on. He seems soft, timid and has zero fire.   canes could have won that game   There isn’t a gap between these two teams  they are dead even   Carter Hart’s gonna get lit up in this series. We can beat that guy. the consensus last night was our defense played horrible and our stars won’t score.  clean the defense up. Tell the top line to shoot it everything and we’ll win tomorrow night.   Possibly convincingly.
