Expectations: If the Allen Trade can produce 1/2 what the Olsen Trade has...

In 2011, Olsen was traded to the Panthers from the Bears for a 3rd round pick. Today, Allen was traded for a conditional 6th rounder.

If the Olsen trade was a 10/10- What does Allen need to do to make you happy? 6-8 sacks? show us anything resembling a pass-rush?

Off topic, but Keffer Jeep Dodge has amazing marketing to be a small time business. Getting Olsen and TD makes me love hearing/watching the commercials.  God dawg I love those two.  Epic tandem on both sides of the ball along with Luke and Cam.

Don't need him to be. Ealy has been very good against run. And Horton has decent against the run also, but neither one is getting there on the pass rush. Need another situational guy like Addison to rush the passer. 

This will also light a fire under the DEs bc 1 of them could potentially be gone (most likely Horton) when CJ is back

6-8 sacks in 13 games here would be solid. If he somehow gets double digits this would be one of Gettleman's best moves yet, which would be astounding since he's had some damn good moves. But whether or not it shows up in the sack column doesn't matter much. If he's pressuring the QBs consistently that'll be enough for me. Honestly would not be surprised at all to see him get 2 or more sacks on Jamey next week. The Bucs line is THAT bad, and I'm sure Allen will have some fire in his heart and he'll be ready to get back in a 4-3 for the first time in a while.

At least you understand what's coming.  I just hope people aren't getting their hopes up and expecting Allen to be like he was in his prime.  Hopefully he can excel at 3rd down's with us.  He's still probably better at getting to the passer than anybody we've got not named Johnson.

Sacks are nice, consistent pressure is better. If he can get in a QB's face when given a chance, good trade.

Peppers is 35 and still dominates

Allen is 33, and has an INT this year, this guy could give the last little bit of gas he has to the Panthers and get us 10+ sacks the rest of the year

People seriously fugin overstate the age of players...Brady is fugin 38 and Peppers can still ball at 35...Our own Smitty just had a monster game at 36.

Medication is better than it was 10-15 years ago, Doctors/Surgeries are better than they were 10-15 years ago, HGH and other poo you have yet to hear about is better than before it existed 15 years ago....just STAHP it.

 

RBs tend to decline after 30 but it doesn't make them useless and scheme/location(team) matters a hell of a lot more than people think about or pay attention to.

I would hope this would be a little like when Kevin Greene came back to us for his second stint with the team.  Best as a situational rusher that can help some of these young guys like Addison.  If he gets 7+ sacks this year I would be ecstatic, but just please light a fire Jared!  Luke McCown was awful comfy back there Sunday.

Here's some context about Jared's age

Kevin Greene was 34 his first year with us in '96 and got 14.5 sacks. His next stint with us in '98-'99 he got 15 sacks and then 12 sacks before retiring at age 37. Granted that was in a 3-4 defense, but the Panthers subbed Greene out a lot on running downs. We'll do the same with Allen to keep him fresh so that his age, like Kevin Greene's, isn't a handicap.
