what are the panthers hiding from us about luke

Recommended Posts

Seriously?  Have you ever watched Cam's wednesday press conference before?  He was no more gloomy than he usually is.

I dunno he is usually pretty cheer full to me.  Im not speculating anything i just think they knew going in they were going to be asked questions they did not want to hear.  Thats all.

From RR's presser I got the feeling that someone on the team had made it very clear to Ron to stop speculating to the media about what he thought was going on with Luke. I imagine the conversation something like "Are you a Dr Ron? Then stop acting like one and talking about what you don't know. We put the medical status on this sheet right here. This sheet. You see it Ron? Say what's on this sheet. That's it. Anything more is you confusing the issue."

Maybe not that harshly and I don't know who would talk to him like that but I got the impression that he was told to not go into detail beyond what was on the injury sheet.

Look, the Panthers unnecessarily signed Luke to a massive extension when he had 2 years left on his rookie contract.

This was a poor business decision.

They must proceed with extreme caution to protect this investment. Having done what they did, I'd expect nothing less.

Signing Luke to a team friendly deal before salary cap rises/his price goes up was unnecessary? Wrong.

It is NOT that the answer of "I don't know" is wearing thin.  It is that you do not like that answer and want more.  But, the team and Ron could really care less what you, I , or any other fan want as it relates to answers on this question.

Fans just have a hard time understanding and accepting this.

I accept his answer fine. My issue is not that i want to know but dont. My issue is more about the idea that a coach doesnt know what is going on medically with his players. I'd like to think he is simply lying because he doesn't want to give info away. If that is the case I'm cool with that: Just say it. However if he "really" doesn't know or doesnt care/want to know...that is a separate issue entirely. A coach that is the one addressing the media knowing full well the first question on everyone's lips will be about the health of x player should be informed about his players at least, and simply refuse to answer. Saying that "I dont know" strikes me as blatantly unprofessional.

Unprofessional. Have you ever dealt with the media. I have but not very often. But I've had training on dealing with the media. It amounts to simply this, speak ONLY what you personally know about. Ron is not a Dr. Him saying anything more than what the Drs have provided on the injury report is simply Ron talking out of turn. That's the approach I saw him take yesterday. He may be frustrated, he may even be hiding something, I don't know...but I would hardly call him unprofessional. He is relaying facts about the health of players as he is instructed to. Even if there is gamesmanship involved he is not being unprofessional.

At least that's my take on it.

He's cheerful after the game.  His wednesday conference is usually boring and he usually looks like he hates to be there.  Normal operating procedure for Cam.  The rampant speculation and craziness in the Huddle is in full force this week I guess.

So keeping the conspiracy theories rolling, maybe Ron wants to get Luke on the field as soon as the docs clear him but DG wants to take it slow. Maybe that's what Ron is frustrated/bummed about. He feels like it's out of his control.

you know, that's about the most reasonable theory I've heard so far.

    • I'm probably one of those posters, but I make those posts because there are too many things going on that don't make sense. For instance, how does a RB that does something that hasn't been done in 14 years immediately get reverted back to 2nd string, and it takes a leadership council to make him the starter when he's averaging 3x the YPC? Your average fan shouldn't be screaming that for 2 weeks before the coach sees it. And that's one of many.  What you're seeing is frustration that we could be better, that we should be better, if our owner, FO, and coaches could do things that are so painfully obvious to even the most basic fan
    • Cowboys. Patriots. Couldn't ask for two bigger villains.
    • I think we're all struggling with what things are right now and what they have been. It's like getting ready to have bandages removed after a long period of injury. The healing, the new growth, they aren't going to be pretty, there's going to be some ongoing issues for a while at best and there's every chance that we're going to have to go back into the bandage situation all over again. And that sucks. But it's also a place where maybe, just maybe, the recovery is going to finally start happening. The bad days will be getting behind us.  It's not going to happen this year, but I believe from what I see that this year is showing that improvement. We focus on the QB because that's what all the pundits focus on, because it's the flashiest and most heralded position on the field. No one wants to put out a tweet about how a center is holding down their job and anchoring a line. They rarely celebrate that blocking tight end or special teams gunner. That fourth CB on the depth chart? Not a mention. And yet, those guys are the kind that we've been building here, we're building the lunch pail guys AND finding some future stars.  Is Bryce one of them? Might be a cornerstone of the team in the future as the second QB, might somehow just show out to end the season. Might flame out like many expect. But if that uncertainty is all we concentrate on, we're just going to miserably look at this team and maybe miss out on some solid green shoots that are finally beginning to poke through into the sunlight.
