Should the Panthers make any moves over the bye week?

I say, yes. I still think they are one "good" WR away from being a very good offense. Norwood obviously can't catch anything with a defender on him and Philly Brown is not physically-gifted in any way.

I bet Duron Carter feels like a fool right now. He'd be getting those plays and opportunities Norwood is, and he'd probably be catching them.

If you think they should make a move, what is it?

Gettleman really knows his way around a D-line, so if he can find another DE to upgrade our pass rush then I'd be all for it. We need more pressure on the QB in a bad way, and especially so now that Atlanta has their passing game cranked up.

Philly is physically unimpressive to put it nicely, and he's not really a speed guy. What he has is agility, but that's just not enough for the long run. He'll be gone at the end of his contract. WRs are hard to come by, but sure I'm in favor of any kind of upgrade.

Yeah, they should move the Seahawks game from Seattle to Charlotte.

Norwood obviously can't catch anything with a defender on him and Philly Brown is not physically-gifted in any way.

That's actually one of Norwood's strong points, and Brown is gifted with speed.

Only position I'd make a move on now would be receiver, but because of the time it takes to learn the position, I don't think any move available would make a dramatic difference.  Much bigger than making a move is getting healthy, that is the most important thing for this team right now.  If we come out against Seattle with Kuechly, Cotchery, and Daryl Williams back while getting Stewart, Fozzy, Tolbert, and TD back to 100% we've got a hell of a good chance against them, especially if they get banged up even worse than they already are over the next 2 games.

Yes, trade something for Boldin.  I think his salary is mostly paid and he's a FA next year.  The 49ers know they aren't going to compete this year and may take a low pick just to get something for him.

I think Boldin would compliment well with our speed guys in Philly/Ginn and add some toughness.  Other than that, not sure.

Literally the slowest man in football coming into our offence sounds like the worst idea ever.

That would be Bersin.  Boldin was never a super fast guy, but he has good hands (that we don't have) and can catch it over the middle and take some hits.    We need someone with some dependable hands since it's obviously Funchess isn't that guy this year.

It wouldn't be as bad as you think. Besides Olsen we really don't have a receiver that is a red zone threat

We really just don't have WRs period. Ginn and Brown are our starting two WRs.  That's not really even a great 3rd and 4th unit.  Funchess has shown no flashes at this point either so that's bad, not really his fault but it's bad team wise.

Don't be down on Funchess or Norwood yet. Norwood been inactive and its not fair to say he can't catch yet. Funchess is a rookie we were spoiled by KB and Funch is doing what a rookie WR usually does.

I also don't think they've used Funchess well with his skill set. I haven't seen a good jump ball for him like we gave KB all last year.

If we do something it won't be exciting because even if you disagree the front office believes the WR we have now are doing well enough to win so why break the bank or a draft pick to fix it.

    • if  ANYONE actually goes & looks at the FACTS on rookie Qb's after 2 full seasons as a starter in the NFL & they are still well below average do they rarely ever actually become top tier Qb's & instead most likely either do not recieve a second contract & or become life long backups...just saying
    • So he became GM and decided not to address the weakness in the QB room following one of the worst rookie QB performances in NFL history?  There were options last season other than signing Dalton to a 2 year deal. Brissett and Jones by a wide margin, both of whom outplayed Bryce, Wilson, Winston, hell even Rivers off the couch was more exciting at the QB position. The time to address the failure in the QB room was last year but instead people on the Huddle cheered when we brought Dalton back then cheered when we were able to get anything for him after they finally realized he was washed up like a few of had been saying all along and got poo'd for even mentioning.  This year, the options were more limited obviously, especially since we lost Icky. It changed the dynamic of our draft. I think we were stuck this year keeping Bryce, but i still think giving him a 5th year option for what has amounted to replacement worthy performance was the wrong move. Why guarantee 25m if you're planning to replace him? You think he's going to want to be a bridge QB? Hell no. He's going to want out and we'll end up cutting him if he has another lackluster season because no one is trading for him with that price tag.  Were there better options as far as production available. A couple. Were there guys available with more physical tools than Bryce, Pickett or Grier, you damn well better believe there were. I've been saying all along, you always keep looking for your 1b. Bryce has yet to prove he can be a starter. Keep looking for someone who may. Put competition in camp. Let the best QB lead the team. Stop settling for less than mediocre.
