The joy of preseason predictions

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Prior to this season, the Dolphins were  picked by many to be contenders.  The Panthers, on the other hand,  were almost universally expected to be cellar dwellers.

Four weeks in, the Panthers are undefeated and the Dolphins just fired head coach Joe Philbin.

Granted, there's plenty of season left, but still...

Miami should have gotten rid of Philbin sooner. It was obvious he wasnt the guy. Theyve got a very talented team. Theyll turn it around but need the right leadership.

i want to point out i said before the season this could very well happen.

Any analyst who predicted the Panthers to be cellar dwellars just doesn't pay attention and should probably be fired.  Mainstream media outlets didn't pay attention to the silent but deadly moves the Panthers made.  Michael Oher was a great signing.  He's not Jordan Gross, but he's not Bryon Bell either.  Bringing back Ginn proved to be a HUGE move after Benjamin got hurt.  Charles Tillman has clearly helped Josh Norman take the next step, teaching him the punch.  And as always he drafted well.  So many other great moves by Gettleman.

The Dolphins made a ton of flashy moves like signing Suh, trading for Stills, adding Jordan Cameron, among many others.  They've long been a poorly managed team full of talent but unable to put it all together.  Just goes to show you that you can't buy success in the NFL.

The most common narrative was "Saints return to greatness while Panthers drop back to mediocrity".

Some analysts threw the Falcons in there as well.

What the Fug did Miami expect signing ONE player not a QB to 100 million plus. Teams never ever learn.. Eagles, Colts, Jags and Dolphins all "won" FA and every single one are .500 or worse. It just blows my mind how teams year after year keep making the same dumb mistakes signing "high profile FAs." God I love Gettleman

Trust me on this... Phil bin lost Miami when he let Ocho Cinco out of Miami like a DOG infront of the whole US on HBO when he was going through one hell of a tough time.

And sorry for saying this but he came out as a rigid old white guy who expects me to be like him... some of these kids coming into the NFL are very sensitive ...talented but sensitive - in their minds they have given everything to use their bodies and talent to make money and get into that other part of america - They want to be like Ocho but of course its unbelievable the kind of crap they have to deal with since everyone wants a piece of all that money they make in those fake contracts we see in the NFL.. pro tracker which they rarely get.
So Philbin despite being brilliant football wise decides to humiliate OCho Cinco infront of America ... the one guy all football players love. Flashy , talented he has had a target on his back since then - and when people get a chance to really place a stake through your heart ... Suh starts showing up to practice with Sneakers and theres nothing you can do about it. They are the talent... you don't humiliate talent because they will turn around and BURN you badly.

Watch miami turn around and ball out for the next coach that starts and go on to win at least 8 games.

Be careful around NFL players - they are as sensitive as they are talented, which is something Gettlemagic understands. You show that you are willing to go out and ball for talent the way that he is.. Cam will do the things he's doing now - just giving it his all, Norman will go out there and ball like its 1995 - people will give the last single breath for the team.

You pretend to be holier than though... you become Philbin - an unbelievable nice guy and you get fired midseason.

Btw i love Texans new coach.... i wish he had a quarterback to complement him. He gets it.

    • I mean I just don't understand the argument. Baker and Sam both have been pro bowl QBs post their time here. And you just said yourself that is due to him having a damn good roster around him and they are well coached. You're even saying the bad baker is still there somewhere, but he is in a good organization with good roster and coaching that they are getting the best out of him. Why does Baker and Sam get all that benefit of the doubt but when it comes to Bryce it must be a BY9 problem, not an org or team problem?  Hell I got a guy below you arguing with me that Chark/Hurst/Mingo sucked because Bryce wouldn't throw them open. It's ridiculous how far the stretch goes.
    • Correct.  It’s really hard to get open in the NFL when opposing defenses gameplan and cheat coverage/routes on all your players because they know your QB can’t make certain throws/plays.   magically no one that comes to Carolina can get open or make plays with the ball in their hands…..it’s like there is one singular common dominator to it all.  BY makes playing defense way too easy.   NFL players are too good to allow one side to cheat coverage and not respect all the potential threats of a route  so you can dial up a great play.  But if corners and safeties just cheat coverage and know X and Y happening on route/threats….getting open gets hard when they just play it one way.  Getting open has a lot to do with the different threats a WR can pose on a given play.
    • Kinda depends how you look at it both were 3rd round draft pics.  Nico was nothing before stroud and tank came in with stroud.  If both were on the panthers would young have them doing well and starting or would their stats be low.  I really dont know the answer to that.  None of the panthers wrs have left and did well either but personally i feel neither of nico or tank would do much on the panthers.
