DWill rushes for 122 yards.

JStew rushes for 21 yards and a TD.

Kasey has 4 field goals.

Smitty takes one to the house.

One of our tight ends catches a TD.

Jake 14-19, 180 yards, 2 TD's no picks.

Defense does the bend but don't break thing a lot.

Pep disappears except for one sack.

Chris Harris crushes.

John Fox gets booed for not going for it on 4th and 2 in the first quarter from the 50.

The local sports bar will continue to have one of their 3 big screens out of order and I'll pitch a complete hissy fit.

Well, I'll play devil's advocate here for once. In case I'm wrong (please let me be wrong!), I like my crow medium-well.

It's the traditional home opener stink bomb that we are used to:

1. McNabb dink and dunks us to death 'cause, well, that's what we've always sucked at defending against

2. Eagles don't put up gaudy stats on the ground but because of point 1, they don't have to

3. We'll be cursing one corner's name on the Huddle. My guess would be Marshall.

4. Eagles will have at least one return cross the 50.

5. Double Trouble barely gets over 100 yards as they continually get hit in the backfield.

6. Mediocre to atrocious pass protection. Jake will be sacked 4 times, have 1 fumble and 1 INT, throws a TD in 4th quarter.

7. Peppers, 0 sacks, 1 stinkin' tackle

8. Don't worry, the bye's coming soon and the team will flip the switch. In the meantime, oy!

Eagles - 30

Panthers - 17

Westbrook's carries are going to be monitored. Eagles are going to have to throw against us and hopefully McNabb makes some mistakes. Carolina runs the ball very well to get out to an early 17-3 lead. Eagles come back and get close but ultimately fall to us 23-17.

I am really a sucker for any thread that claims to be the "official" anything. Still waiting for the "Official post here if you are a douchebag" thread. I'm all over it.

But seriously, I think the Panthers will find a way to win at home.

Eagles:

Mcnabb is not illustrious in his 09 debut, throwing fora paltry 180 yds with a TD and an INT. Meanwhile Westbrook gets his yards (easily 100+ run and rec combined) but we manage to hold him to only 1 play over 20 yds. Too bad it is a 2nd Q TD.

On defense the Eagles are not the same as in years past, but do manage to collect 2 turnovers. Fortunately the Eagles are only able to convert 3 pts out of it.

Panthers:

Jake finds Barnidge 5 times, one is a TD. Smitty gets 6 catches, one of which goes for 60+ down to the 2 to set up a Stewart TD. Jake throws an INT on a pass tipped at the line.

D Will shreds the Eagles for 125 yds. Goodson shows up in the running and the passing game.

On D, we don't really come alive until the second half, with Pep and Johnson both recording sacks. Davis picks off Mcnabb, setting up a nice 3 play drive that ends in the Barnidge TD mentioned earlier.

All in all it goes down mostly like a shootout, with our D starting to get to McNabb toward the end of the game.

Score at half: 14-10 Eagles

Final Score: 27-20 Panthers

Williams + Smitty + Goodson = 350 yds and 3 TDs

McNabb injures his rotator cuff warming up and gets pissy that they put his back up in, instead of letting the essence of his greatness play QB

Zod wins at cornhole and JR has to wax his balls

Someone comes up with a new name for cornhole so everyone doesn't think that it's a night time activity for gay men

I eat too much pizza and bitch about feeling fat

Panthers win 24-13

    • In my opinion Fitterer was probably right about not paying McCaffrey. Now not wanting to "pay RBs" in my opinion isn't something you want to set in stone, to me it all comes down to the individual.
    • Maybe I'm just not understanding, but everywhere that I have read says that signing bonuses go against the cap prorated by as much as five years. The following example uses Andrew Luck's rookie contract as an example. "Take Andrew Luck, the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft. Luck signed a four-year contract with the Colts worth $22.1 million and included a $14.5 million signing bonus. Rather than a $14.5 million cap hit in 2012, the Colts spread out his signing bonus over the life of his contract. The hit against the cap would be $3.625 million per year over four years instead of a direct cap hit of $14.5 million directly in 2012. This gave the Colts more leverage and cap flexibility in signing other players." https://www.the33rdteam.com/nfl-signing-bonuses-explained/ I don't know why some of you think that signing bonuses aren't counted against the cap over the length of the contract, but whatever.   "The bonus with a signing is usually the most garish aspect of a rookie contract. Bonus is the immediate cash players receive when they ink a deal. It factors into the cap, but only for the whole contract duration, in terms of salary cap calculations. In the case of Bryce Young’s $24.6 million signing bonus, that’s prorated to approximately $6.15 million per season over a four-year deal. This format allows teams to handle the cap and provides rookies with some short-term fiscal stability, which is important given the high injury risk in this league." https://collegefootballnetwork.com/how-rookie-contracts-work-in-the-nfl/ I understand how signing bonuses can be a useful tool in order to manage the cap, and as one of the article suggests, signing bonuses may become important if you have a tight cap, but the bill is always going to come due. I'm not necessarily referring to you Tuka, but it seems to me that others simply don't want to understand that fact which is why they're reacting to what I'm saying negatively. How odd. In any event, I have a better general understanding of why signing bonuses are used now, and it's generally to fit salaries under the cap. Surely players, whether they be rookies or not, love a signing bonus because they get a good portion of their money up front. This in turn gives them more security and probably amounts to tax benefits as well. I also understand why teams would not want to use signing bonuses, particularly for players or draftees who have a higher probability of being gone before a contract even ends.
