Not one but two websites TODAY say we should trade for Calvin Johnson

Honestly I think we're better off waiting out the year and letting Detroit drop him in the offseason and pick him up then. Players like him are great signs because since they got paid tremendously previously, they're not mostly just looking for money. He's going to want to go to a contender and he still has a lot to offer and we can provide him with that type of environment. It's just not feasible to do it now.

Man, talk about click bait!  It's a fun Madden situation, but his money and age are really working against him.  I would HATE to give up that many draft picks and the cash on hand, and restructure CJ....No, no, no...too much money for someone who would have to learn our system and also be willing to block his face off.  Is he a good blocker?  A willing blocker?

You know, it makes me wonder what these guys do to write these types of articles. Do they just throw darts at a wall and pick the easiest thing to write about without putting any thought and effort into the subject?

I mean do they even analyze things before hitting enter?

The salary cap hit the Panthers would take on with Calvin..The price is too high even for Megatron. If he was say in his mid to late 20's...okay, he's 30. He has maybe 3-4 years left if we're lucky. His cost would be to much. You'd basically be looking at sacrificing 3-4 players for one guy.

Does he fit? Well, yeah he does fit. It's Megatron. But we're also not that desperate to send over multiple picks. If they haven't noticed...the Panthers are undefeated without "weapons" other than Olsen. If anything, this trade would hinder more than help.

Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. Would love Calvin Johnson in his twilight years, but at maybe 10-20% of his current contract and cap hit.

Not wanting Calvin Johnson on this team, right now, shows the absolute lack of football knowledge that truly exists in this place. Getting Megatron, on this team, right now, at whatever cost, just punches Carolinas ticket to the SuperBowl. Not wanting Megatron, is akin to not wanting a SuperBowl trophy. Sorry, im taking SuperBowl.

I think the stupid posts about not wanting him, are just guys ways of coping with the fact it wont happen. No football watching fan is dumb enough to not want him on their team.

No.  Stop it guys.  Just "No".  He is getting old and the risk is not worth the reward.  His salary is too much and we have other players that we need to sign...younger players with years ahead of them.  If he was cheap, maybe.  But given his age and salary...HELL NO!!!!!

Throwing away multiple high draft picks on an over paid (albeit talented) receiver in the twilight of his career?

No thanks, rather that Gettleman take his chances with what we have now.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Detroit let Johnson go next year as they'll be in rebuilding mode.

At that point Gettleman can sign Johnson to a reasonable one year deal to help the Panthers win their second SB championship.

the WR we should have got was Crabtree, he got lowballed because he had a borderline imbecile as a QB throwing it to him who reduced his market value. Raiders got him for cheap and he is tearing it up

Agree.

My "value" pick in fantasy 3 years in a row is finally paying off.

Yes anybody saying they don't want him has some serious issues in their brain department. Those that are saying they don't want him due to what we give up or potentially lose don't have issues up there.

I also want to say one other thing. One player doesn't guarantee SB or SB victory. This isn't the NBA

No, your Madden mentality is wrong. The second you say " whatever the cost", your whole point goes right out the window. We don't even have enough money to pay him for the rest of this year. How you fix that? Or pay him 16M next year. What are we going to use to replace Norman and CJ and others because our picks are gone?

Playing Madden, or being related to Marty Hurney doesn't mean you know anything about football.
