Trade Deadline Moves, News, and Speculation

Figured we should have a post for any trades made today before the deadline.  I will attempt to keep this updated throughout the day.

Vernon Davis - Traded from SanFran to Denver.  (Swap 2016 6th and 7th, and a 2017 6th)

The Titans have fired Ken Whisenhunt.

49ers signing Pierre Thomas according to a source

Lions WR Calvin Johnson reportedly not at practice this morning.

A fun one to watch: #Patriots have interest in #Titans CB Jason McCourty to pair him with his twin, Devin. Alas, deal not expected right now

Teams have been talking to 49ers about their OL. Sense they get is Staley more available than some others

Cowboys have released Joseph Randle.

Chargers' WR Keenan Allen underwent a kidney procedure – not a surgery – and could be out for season, per league sources. 2015 uncertain.

Not that there was much of a chance, but #49ers aren’t trading Colin Kaepernick. They haven’t ruled him out starting later in the season.

Names I've heard the most on during deadline day: Staley (among other 49ers) , J. Cook, Kruger, Mingo, Streater, M. Cooper, Willie Young,

I don't want to disrupt chemistry, but Ginn has dropped several passes with nothing but the endzone in front of him. It doesn't hurt as bad against JAX and IND, because we won.  However, in January, those drops cannot happen, and I don't think it's fixable on the fly. It sucks bc Ginn has had his best years here in Carolina and continuously gets separation from good corners. It's not the rest of the personnel that concerns me (though lack of pass rush does), but if we have the chance to add a Garcon/Jeffrey/Floyd without hurting our cap long-term (Norman, Short) then I think we should pull the trigger.

Cam is having a phenomenal year and has improved his touch and deep ball, as well as his patience and progressions. SB windows are usually small, and at 7-0, if we need a more sure-handed WR to help this offense, I'm okay with it.  Conversley, if it doesn't happen, I'm not losing sleep over it..... I just think that the unit of Ginn/Brown/Cotchery isn't the kind of group that marches through the playoffs to Levi's Stadium.

    • Most teams OLs are dealing with injuries at the end of the season. So by that token all QB play should be horrific across the board, but it's not.  Using the OL as an excuse anytime a QB plays bad is just lazy.  This is the same OL when Bryce had his good games not so long ago.  So do they suck just when Bryce does bad? Obviously they played well enough when y'all were doing your victory laps and saying 'you told us Bryce was the man' in the victories. It goes back to my stance with Bryce all along...he's a low end starting QB.  He'd be a great backup. Bryce is going to have a few really nice games a season at this point in his career, with a few WTF games mixed in, but very middling overall.
    • Good Lord! I bet the O-line play wasn't the worst since 1980.  And @thebdawg, injuries absolutely can make for a bad showing at the end of the day. That's not an excuse, it's just a fact.
    • Defense stepped up after that and held them to a FG. Offense proceeded to turn it over on downs right after.  Was it an incredibly dumb penalty, of course it was. The defense played their asses off though and got zero help from the offense. If you force them to punt at that point instead of the penalty do you really think the offense does anything differently?
