Question: DG playing chess with Seahawks?

Norwood is inactive again today. Unless the guy is a complete air head,  he should be up to speed on the offense by now. I believe the 6th round pick in the trade is based on the playing time. Could it be the plan to stash the guy this year to retain the 6th? What do you think?

Interesting question. I believe that this is definitely part of the equation in some form or fashion. I don't believe it is the determining factor however. I believe it simply comes down to the point that Norwood really hasn't necessary thus far in order for us to win football games. I also believe that the coaches feel that activating him is not worth taking away game time from Funchess who needs seasoning as he is suspected to be a larger answer to our needs long-term.

I mean, hell, we could cut him next season with the "understanding" that he will be re-signed at a later point in order to keep that sixth. I don't believe that he is going anywhere right now, as we still need a fail-safe due to injury, or in the event that others don't progress or show up like they should during this second half of the season.

In any event, I don't think that he's not playing because he sucks or hasn't mastered the playbook.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
