The NFL on Tuesday released postseason scenarios for Carolina and New England, who are each 10-0. There are seven ways the Panthers could clinch as soon as this weekend:

  1. CAR win in DAL + SEA loss or tie + TB loss or tie OR
  2. CAR win in DAL + SEA loss or tie + ATL loss or tie OR
  3. CAR win in DAL + TB loss or tie + MIN loss + ARI loss OR
  4. CAR win in DAL + TB loss or tie + MIN loss + GB loss or tie + ARI tie OR
  5. CAR win in DAL + TB loss or tie + MIN tie + GB loss + ARI loss OR
  6. CAR tie with DAL + TB loss + SEA loss OR
  7. CAR tie with DAL + TB tie + SEA loss + ATL loss

 

The earliest the Panthers can clinch the NFC South is next week. For that to happen, they have to beat the Cowboys and Saints and the Falcons have to lose one of their next two games.

Besides, the Vikings aren't losing to the Eagles & the Packers aren't losing to the Bears.

The cards arent likely losing to the san francisco blaine gabbert's either.

They would have the tiebreak because one of their losses was to an afc team and we beat all of our afc opponents.

This would matter because the first tiebreaker outside of head to head with a team in a different division is conference record.  If we end up tied with them, our conference record is guaranteed to be worse than theirs since one of their losses was to Pittsburgh out of the afc.

That is why we do not want to be tied with them.

No need to be a smart ass. I'll explain it to you. 

First tie breaker is win/loss record in conference games.  They lost to Pittsburgh which is an AFC team.  Since we no longer have any out of conference games left, that means if we lose two of our remaining six and they win out,  that our two losses came in conference. So that's how they have the tie breaker. 

Next time do some research before trying to be a bad ass..  That's not really like you

LOL, I didn't realize that I was being a bad ass. I guess where I differ from you is that I don't anticipate us losing at all. A couple of you are assuming we're going to lose at least two, or hoping we don't lose two? 

I fully understand how tie breakers are used, I just didn't expect anyone in this board to think that we would lose two of our remaining games.

Some people on this board, first it was OMG Atlanta looks so scary good, then it was if we at least win 2 out of the 4 on our gauntlet part of schedule, now it's I hope we don't lose two, because ESPN says that Arizona is better than us.

If the show fits, then wear it, if not sit back and enjoy this historic run with the rest of us.

Hope you didn't think I was trying to be a bad ass again, just speaking the truth

We could clinch the NFC South by next weekend. Three things need to happen:

- we win the next two games. Moot point if we dont. A win on Thursday officially eliminates New Orleans from the NFC South race, regardless if they win this week or not. A Panther win will maintain the six game lead over New Orleans. With five to play after this, that means elimination.

- Tampa Bay loses this weekend to the Colts. If they do, they are eliminated from the NFC South race with a Panther win on Thursday. Same situation as the Saints. A Bucs loss coupled with a Panthers win would open up a 6 game lead on the Bucs. 6 games to make up with only 5 to play eliminates the Bucs. Good chance this happens.

- Atlanta loses this week to the Vikings, or next week to the Buccaneers. Assuming Carolina wins against the Saints, that puts us at 12 wins. With a loss either week, ATL's ceiling would be 11 wins.

In summary, it will require Panther wins against the Saints and Cowboys, a Buccaneers loss to the Colts, and a Falcons loss to the Vikings or Bucs, to seal the deal for Carolina. 

EDIT: had to rethink the ATL section. Think I got it now.

      Not a Moore fan-but he had a few good games last year-but I want players that scare you--Renfrow's route running and intelligence, Legette's size, speed, and strength, AT's intelligence and route running, Coker's body control, strong hands, and abilty to win contested catches, and TMac's size, body control, and ability to find soft spots in zone coverages.  Horn gives them the ability to stretch the field and he plays special teams.   Moore has a nice smile and can dance.  He filled in well last season, but to get better as a team, you have to upgrade your players.  I think Moore is a bottom of the roster guy who got bumped when we drafted 2 WRs and signed a legit free agent.  Here is the thing--TMac makes us better because he is great against the zone--man?  Good luck with that.  AT's role can be reduced, and that is probably a good thing.  He can specialize in situational football. Coker?  Just getting started. XL?  Just getting started.  Drafting TMac was probably a bit of a wake up call, but XL will be better as the 2. Renfrow?  I see him splitting reps with AT--keeping both fresh and giving different looks. Horn?  Watch the safety cheat his side when he is in the game--I see a young Steve Smith type in him, but he has yet to play a game.  I hear that Morgan loves him.
