Panthers Work Out Cortland Finnegan

Not sure I want to mess with team chemistry now unless necessary due to Tillman's prognosis, etc.  But wow, to work out players on Friday after Thanksgiving after just winning a blowout to get to 11-0.  That shows me our team - incl our Front Office - is not willing to rest on their laurels, but is being proactive to attack any and every weakness.

Love it.

I don't get that. I know I remember it being said that Shaq was drafted to play the nickel

Shaq is here to keep our LB corp crazy good b/c our FO values it.  He will ultimately be Davis' replacement and allow us to continue the trend of great LB play.

I respect the team's evaluation but I never cared much for this guy

He probably is much easier to stomach when he plays on your team.

I mean look at Smitty and Norman....he really isn't more annoying than them.  But those were our guys

Possible upgrade over Teddy Williams.

Is Finnegan fast?  Williams has been doing a good job as gunner, but too many penalties.

We do have a  3 game "trial window" with a free roster spot while Horton is suspended... (assuming we release the emergency long snapper)

At CB but Teddy is our best gunner.  Those ST jobs are very underrated and Ron finally acknowledged how just inserting random guys into ST instead of real special teammers is costly

    • This And with possibly needing to replace Bryce next year and a deep QB class, I do not hate the idea of moving far enough back to pick up another 1st rounder next year out of the deal. I wouldn't have said that a week ago, but I also never expected us to land 3 big FA's at our 3 biggest positions of need like we have, it totally changes things.
    • The OL has certainly been better than the trainwreck it was three or four years ago. As far as competitiveness let's apply some realism and clarity here. Quite a bit of the competitiveness in 2025 came from the defensive side of the ball which gave up the most points in league history the year before and was one of the bottom 5 units in terms of salary cap allocation for 2025 while the OL was top 3. We had the 26th passing offense last year. And if not for a herculean couple of games from Rico Dowdle we don't back our way into the division title or make the playoffs because we went 4-6 in our final ten games including being swept by the Saints who were starting a rookie 2nd round pick most of us mercilessly mocked when they selected him. In conclusion yes we've seen a difference. The question now is will the investment pay off the way we want. But the only way that happens is if we field a top 15 offense. If we can't even crack the top 20 then there need to be some very warm seats across the board. And I would hope just about anyone here should agree with that.
    • These Spurs are lowkey loaded.  If healthy, they could win it all this year (#2 in the West right now). I still think we’ve gotta keep Kalk on Wemby; he’s not getting completely dominated like every other NBA center.
