He'll hit the waiver wire anyway and someone will claim him (that contract though...) but for discussion sake where does he fit in Carolina? Do you drop Finnegan? Can't really take Teddy's jersey since he plays ST unless Williams does too (which I don't believe is the case), so do you claim him and just leave him inactive as a future-based move?

Future based, primarily.

Competition for Tillman's spot next year perhaps.

Wouldn't claim him but could look at him if he cleared.

And future based, primarily. Maybe as competition for Tillman's spot next year.

Much as I like him, I'm not convinced Tillman as another full season in him.

Williams is 30, so it's temporary.

Still trying to figure out if Cortland was worth the effort to grab him for our team. That wasn't exactly a great showing by our DBs.

I've been wondering if some of the apparent confusion on Sunday in NOLA could have been due to having Cortland in for so many snaps (30).  I'm not sure they intended to give him so many in his 1st game, but the early TD against Colin Jones made it necessary.  I thought Cortland looked pretty decent for a guy just picked up off the streets, but I wonder if timing etc. of the DBs may have been slightly off or if they were somehow distracted by playing with a new guy,

My thinking is that our passing defense, particularly our QBs weren't looking that bad before, even with the loss of Tillman. I worried more about bringing Finnegan in because of team chemistry more than anything else. Also, Jones isn't the liability that people think he is. He gets beat once in a while, but they all do, even Norman. 

Finnegan's rep, well-earned, also worries me a bit. Good CBs oftentimes trash talk, really bad ones rely overly on trash talk to get their opponent out of their game plan. Finnegan always struck me as the second type more than the first.

I don't think Finnegan had a lot of impact on the passing game on Sunday, honestly. Brees was showing off why he's one of the best and letting everyone know that the Saint's season wasn't his fault.

This in itself would probably be worth dropping our 52nd man... The seahawks very likely could wind up as the 6th seed and beat their wild-card opponent setting up a 6 seed seattle coming to Carolina. Can he play special teams? Contract wasn't as bad as I was thinking.

 

They front loaded it so the dead money is only 3.5M over the next 2 seasons.

And no, I don't want him here.
