Damn it feels good to be a Panther

Living in Fayetteville virtually my whole life which is very much a transplant city due to it being a military town, and being a tenured fan of the Carolina Panthers over the years has been a lonely existence at times. I actually didn't meet any other fans until I got to my current job and meant two fans I could discuss the game with until around 2010, almost 8 years into my fandom by then. Often I would tell people I was a fan of the team over the years and they would give me a "why on earth would you want to do that look" and a chuckle, because many of out of towners were Giants, 49ers, Jets, Eagles, fans etc, and the locals were mainly Cowboys and Redskins fans.

This season in particular more than any other has made it particularly special to be a fan. I went in the gas station down from my house after yesterday's game and three people went out of their way to congratulate me and walking into work  today felt like being a celebrity with the amount of accolades I got. The whole room frooze when I walked in and everyone couldn't wait to tell me how great my team is. Point being: I know the ultimate goal has not been achieved but we're on a magical run guys and gals, one built on a young core that will have us in contention for years to come. I'd love to hear any stories you may have of similar circumstances.

I moved to Cleveland in December of last year. Nothing but Browns fans at work. They haven't given me nothing but love, and talk nonstop about how amazing Cam is.

Always point out that had the Browns not went 5-11 in 2010, they would've hopefully drafted him 1st overall and would be in much better shape.

You know the Browns would have totally fugged Cam's career up.

No stories to tell other than strangers are more apt to say something about the Panthers now when I am out with my Panthers gear on. One thing I have been telling friends and family is to enjoy what we have going on here. We may never start 12-0 again and when we look back years down the road this could be our golden year ( or years) so let's enjoy the trip and hopefully we will reach the February destination we all desire, Keep Pounding.

All my friends are big market fans. They have always chastised me for being a Panthers fan. It feels good to get texts from my buddies talking good about the Panthers. Being in the military I move around a lot, so when I recently signed in from leave wearing my Panthers hat I was called a bandwagon fan. It pissed me off, and I named every starter at every position, first and last names. They got the picture pretty quick, but I continued anyways. It does feel good to be 12-0, and I really hope we can run the table all the way through the Super Bowl!

I know, cool story bro!

Oh no doubt. Still great to hear good things coming from other fan bases, regardless if it's Browns fans or not.

Browns fans are the most friendly, humble fan base in the NFL. We know why of course. Loyal to the bone, too.

I've got my whole office here in Africa rooting for the Panthers.  We're 13 adults from 7 different nationalities.  Every Monday a.m. they're all asking how we did - though they of course can tell from the smile on my face that we won!  They're all excited for me that I'll be back in CLT for Christmas and get to see the Tampa Bay game live.  I will be traveling back to Africa the morning after the NFCCG and will be in NYC that weekend, not CLT, unfortunately. Nor will I be in the States for the Superbowl.  But I've got a few of my teammates promising to watch the Superbowl with me starting at 11:30 p.m. local time if the Panthers are playing!

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
