UPDATE: Newton (non-injury) was a limited practice participant Thursday, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.

ANALYSIS: Newton is leaving the Panthers' practice facility for a few days to tend to a personal matter, according to Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer. Hence, the abbreviated practice session Thursday, which will extend into Friday as Newton is expected to rejoin the team Saturday. Considering his Week 14 performance against the Falcons -- 15 of 21 passing for 265 yards and three touchdowns -- he's safe to trust for those vying for fantasy championships.

FanDuel isn't the most reliable of sources.

Here's the quote that was missing from the OP:

Quote

“He went through everything that he was supposed to but he had to take off for a family situation,” Rivera said. “It’s a positive, nothing negative, nothing bad. But it’s not injury-related.”

Rivera said Newton would join the team on Saturday after the off-day for Christmas and travel with the Panthers to Atlanta for the game.

Either a child birth...or just asked to be off for Christmas a bit early. They probably allowed it because Cam is Cam. He knows the Falcons defense like the back of his hand and he has passed up opportunities at his Vet days, so he's owed one. Nothing to concern over if Ron isn't saying anything vaguely hinting at cause for concern.

At this point, it would be one helluva feat for Cam to have a kid/pregnant significant other without it being common knowledge. Not impossible, but definitely difficult.

    • I think the qualification has changed over time though. A deep ball play used to take 4 to 6 seconds for the receiver to get to that spot on the field. Now a receiver can be there in 2.5. That's less time than most QBs have to set and throw. In my mind a deep route takes time to develop. A crossing route and a deep route can't take the same amount of time at full speed. You can have 4 deep balls on the same drive,  almost 5 if you do 5 20 yard throws goal line to goal line. That doesn't even make sense when you say it out loud.
    • The sad part is it looks manicured enough that he's aware it's running away from him.  Also, I just wanted to give you some fun loving grief on King Haynes today having a chance to throw a game winning TD, and was wildly errant, and ultimately picked off to end the game.  So happy I won't have to hear anything else about The Golden Calf of Bristol lite ever again watching college football.
    • I just think Panthers believe in Bryce far more than the fans do and he is most likely going to be the QB at least the next two seasons. the real shot of us moving from Bryce is not getting an extension, till then they are going to give him every chance to succeed and I just want to win.
