Dave Gettleman: "We need more speed on the field"

The Panthers would be better off playing Kuechly and Shaq deep on pass plays and have Klein and Davis up at the LB positions. Harper and Coleman are costing this team by allowing the big plays.

You could see the expression on Luke's face when he looked back from his underneath coverage and was shocked he had no deep help over the top of the receiver. The LB covers better than the safety. Ridiculous.

We are all angry at the defense, and rightly so, but the offense cost us the game yesterday.

When Bene went down, I said then that we are going to have to get accustomed to the other team scoring more points, and we are, but the offense at least needs to show up for the flight.

This is squarely on them, even with the defense having a less than stellar day.

I don't think anyone thought/thinks Jared Allen is the answer at DE.  He was brought in as a stop gap because of injuries.  I think the Panthers hoped Frank Alexander would play this year, and I doubt they expected for CJ to be playing like he is. It really is surprising to see how far CJ has fallen from last year.  Losing Hardy was huge, but unfortunately he had to be let go.  Great DE don't grow on trees.

I think the blame was even. The defense couldn't get off on 3rd down, giving Atlanta a 10+ min advantage in TOP, hamstringing the offense.

The offense looked hamstrung enough to me without the defenses help.  I agree, the D did them no favors, but they couldn't get out of their own way after the first drive.

We just need WRs that snatch football in the air like Julio does. We put too much onus on the QB to throw the receiver open. And those goddamn drop!

Every team in the NFL needs WR's that can snatch the ball like Julio does, he's one of the very best in the NFL.

Every team also needs a MLB that plays like his hair is on fire, and a CB that can lock down even the best WR's with a little help from his DL.

Such is life in the salary cap era.

I would say, 90% of teams in the league have a franchise WR and we don't even come close to having one. You can say KB but he was as drop-prone as Ginn and was the focus of the offense so he accumulated some decent yardage. I hope we make a run for Alshon Jeffrey.

KB was a rookie, and got 1k yards, and 9 TD's....don't know how much more you can ask for someone who was drafted at the back of the first and is making peanuts.

KB was asked to step into the #1 WR role as a rookie, and he was a force from day one. Do you understand how remarkable that is?

You seem to have a short memory.

It's nothing about KB, it's just the franchise not having or even close to having a franchise receiver. Tedd Ginn had 14 catches, about 170 yards with the cardinal last year with the cardinal yet he's our #1 because he's feature. If KB come back and become that guy, the more power to him. And I'm not talking about some catch 3 drop 1 WR.

You said 90% of the teams have "franchise" WR's....I just don't count that many.

That would be 3 teams out there without "franchise" WR's, with us being 1 of them.  Off the top of my head I see the Pats, Vikings, Seattle, and Redskins just in the playoffs without a "franchise WR".

    • I definitely respect your opinion more than Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, and Carmelo Anthony (whom I just watched on their show, all saying NOBODY wants to get the Hornets in the post-season). You win.
    • For all the good feelings about Bryce Young, when you read between the lines, it's what DC says and doesn't say that makes us know that Bryce hasn't necessarily been the supercomputer that they thought he would be. This season, Bryce has to make a tangible progression on the field. "A big part of it is being able to operate at the line of scrimmage — not in the huddle — when we want to, and he’s certainly capable of that," Canales said about Young. "It’s not solely on him. It’s a group that’s pretty young. You have to trust all the guys to go up there, communicate verbally or nonverbally and execute what we’re doing. We’ve made huge strides in that regard. His ability to alter things based on what they’re giving you will give us another edge, which he’s continued to grow and had some great examples down the stretch where he identified things they were doing, got us to the right check and capitalized on some plays. Want to see him do that more when it’s appropriate. We don’t need to be changing things just to change it." The implications, perhaps insinuations, are pretty evident. Bryce is just going to have to do better. "And then for Bryce, it’s the identification of early on the cues that the defense are giving us, to be able to eliminate parts of your progression before the ball’s even snapped. That happens with time. I’ve seen quarterbacks really own and master, which allows them to play lightning fast." Obviously Bryce isn't necessarily picking things up as fast as Canales would like, and I can only assume that Canales is making comparisons to Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Baker Mayfield. But, of course, not everyone picks things up at the same rate. Bryce's pace has left Canales wanting for more. During the coming season, I don't believe that it will be good enough for Bryce to start putting things together in December, evidence of the light switch being on is going to have to show itself in September. Basically, it's really the moment that we've all been waiting for, the one that we thought should've happened earlier, the one that brings Bryce's accountability in the spotlight. On an off note, perhaps to that end, we should consider the possible implications upon the draft, but that's another story. Basically, it's time for Bryce to sh¡t or get off the pot. https://roundtable.io/sports/nfl/panthers/news/carolina-panthers-dave-canales-holds-nothing-back-on-bryce-young-in-new-interview
