Chip Kelly fired

Mr. Scot

yes and no.

Schematically he's fine.  Would, ideally, he run fewer plays?  To a point, but being both hyper aggressive and running the ball well/believing in good line play is great.

But scheme is just a part of it.  He got guys to execute, but he's not good with people.  He felt like he had to go get "his" guys to buy in, in part because he felt like some weren't.   You take that, against a guy like Rivera that can bring together anyone, and scheme isn't as important anymore.

We would probably agree he has no business being a GM.   To a point, his issue isn't some fabricated "he can't run college scheme in the NFL" because Carolina is doing the same in a lot of ways, to similar success to his first year.  I think it's more a Harbaugh thing, wherein he needs to make guys instead of lead already-made guys.

There's no doubt in my mind that Rivera, and plenty of other guys, don't look at themselves as above the team or that scheme is above talent.  I think that's Chip's problem.  You coach players into a team format, you can't go against that grain and hold yourself above it.

I think Kelly ran into some of the same problems as Harbaugh.

You can't coach paid professionals the same way you coach college kids on scholarship, especially not if you're a control freak. But rather than adjust his approach, Kelly chose to adjust the roster and dump guys he thought were the problem.

The real problem for most college coaches is transitioning from working with impressionable kids to grown men who see football as their living  and expect to be treated as equals. They want to be valued and respected. Kelly always acted as if his system was more important than his people and that players could be interchanged without problem. He didn't built chemistry or a sense of team so no one felt loyal to him. Add that he was not well liked which is opposite of what Rivera did for example and you can see why Ron is up for coach of the year and Kelly is looking for a job

Terrible decision to give him GM power.

IIRC, they offered him a deal to be HC and not GM. He walked away from it and they came back on their knees with a new deal that would give him GM duties as well.

I would never give a HC the duties of GM for my team, but definitely not a college coach trying his hand at the NFL for the first time. If I had to it would be for an Andy Reid, Holmgren, Bellicheet or some coach who has been in the league for 15+ years and really knows the game

One of my first thoughts too.

Didn't he get fired from their coaching staff after one season as DC? Why would he want to go back to that dumpster fire? I think people are ignoring the obvious issues he'd have with returning just because he has a past connection. I get that it's a head coaching opportunity, but I'd think he'd want to go somewhere a little less volatile.

Lurie asked him to give up personnel control and Chip said no.

Lurie blew it giving that type of control to begin with and then try to reign it back in.

I'm saying it now. Murray will NEVER get a 1k yards again. Dallas knew he hit his wall and gladly traded him. For Kelly not to know that told me he isn't a good pro talent evaluator.

Dallas didnt trade him. He was a UFA.

dallas tried their best to resign him. He went to the highest bidder

wtf bro

He got let go from Reid's coaching staff. Reid isn't there anymore.

Prior to coming here, McDermott worked his way up from intern to DC, all in Philly.

He actually has way more history there than he does here.

eagles are fuging retarded, they're not going to hire a new GM, just stick with their in house guys

Owner Jeffrey Lurie said Executive VP of Football Operations Howie Roseman will again head the Eagles' personnel department.

Roseman won't have the title of general manager, but it sounds like the Eagles won't be hiring one. Instead, the trio of authority will be Roseman, Senior Director of Player Personnel Tom Donahoe, and the new coach. They'll form a collaborative effort to make decisions. Roseman was the Eagles' GM from 2010-2014 before being forced out of the role by Chip Kelly last offseason.
