'Stevonne' Smith is his actual name, though Dick was surely unaware.

I know what Steve's real given name is, lol...  but that is why the name gaffes were even more careless...  he wasnt calling him by his given name (Stee-Von), nor did he call him what he preferred in Steve...  he called him Steven lol.

Also, IIRC, he used to call him Stephen Davis for years after Davis had retired lol.  He just doesnt care.

I remember you calling him a bust after Seattle :-p

Yeah, and ive happily ate my crow, as i said i would.  But, in all fairness, there werent many around here around that time that still had a lot of faith in him either.

I'm ecstatic i was wrong about Devin.  But, regardless, this Kevin guy has something, lol.

That was like Week 6 of a 21 yr. old's rookie season. Maybr fair to wonder if he'll contribute this year, silly to speculate about career trajectory.

anybody know how Funch ranks against the other rookie WRs?

Probably second to Amari Cooper.  I'l have to check but Devanta Parker, Diggs, and DGB all had strong second halfs of the season once they got the chance to play.

Certainly better than Agholor, Kevin White, Perriamn, Dorsett, Strong and countless others that were popular alternatives on the huddle.

Edit:

In order of where they were drafted:

(1.4) Amari Cooper: 70 rec 1050 yds 6 TDs

(1.6) Kevin White: DNP

(1.14) Devante Parker: 26 rec 494 yds 3 TD

(1.20) Nelson Agholor: 23 rec 283 yds 1 TD

(1.26) Perriman: DNP

(1.29) Phillip Dorsett: 18 rec 225 yds 1 TD

(2.8) Dorial Green-Beckham: 32 rec 549 Yds 4 TDs

(2.9) Devin Funchess: 24 rec 353 yds 4 TDs

(3.6) Jaelan Strong: 14 rec 161 yds 3 TDs

All and all not too bad comparatively for the 8th receiver off the board.  #Gettlemagic

Not counting today's stats, he's listed at 16th with 24 receptions, and 10th with 353 yards counting TEs and RBs, which puts him 8th and 7th for just Rookie WRs, respectively.

Not bad considering he barely got on the field the first half of the season.

    • I wanted someone to hire him so we got the picks, but I'm also not upset that he'll now be back. I genuinely don't understand why so many fans on here dislike him so much.  No, he's not perfect and made some mistakes this year, especially at the end of the playoff game and going so soft in coverage on the final drive. But considering this place torched him all offseason for us having the "worst defense in NFL history" last year.  Said in the whole pre-draft process how we had to go defense in round 1 because of it and then complained the rest of the offseason that we didn't do enough to improve the defensive roster. How do people say all that about the defense and then complain when he turned that same unit into a pretty respectable defense this year.  They were really the only reason we were in a lot of games for most of the season, as the middle part of the season they really stepped up and were playing like one of the better defenses in the league. I don't see any reason we can't improve even more next year if we spend another offseason focusing on adding pieces on that side of the ball, which we should be able to do with our draft picks and cap space.
    • And they are perfect during the month of February! The fact they're 11th in the league now, but best in the league since Dec 6 tells you everything you need to know.
