How do the Panthers stack up to the other 15-1 teams iyo?

Recommended Posts

Panthers are only the 6th team to go 15-1. How did they end up? Some quick af write ups because im lazy and dont have phillybs or scps way with words

1984 49ers

The 1984 49ers were the first team to go 15-1, and they were perhaps the most balanced. Their entire secondary made the pro bowl that year, and they finished 1st in ppg on defense. On Offense, they were second in ppg. Their only loss was a 20-17 week 7 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The dominated the Bears 26-0 in the NFCCG, and crushed Miami 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX.

1985 Bears

Definitely the most famous of the of these teams. Da Bears had a legendary defense with hall of famers all down the front 7. But the best Bear of all...

They had a great offense as well, finishing second in the NFL in ppg. Their only loss was getting crushed by the Dolphins on MNF after starting 12-0

The Bears ran train through the playoffs, winning three postseason games by a combined score of 91-10.

The 18-1 season was capped off with a 46-10 demolition of the Patriots in Super Bowl XX.

1998 Vikings

The Vikings put together the most powerful offense ever assembled, scoring a poo ton of points. Their defense finished 6th overall and they crushed the Cowboys on Thanksgiving as well. Sound familiar? Had an inexplicable loss to an 8-8 division rival.  If youre one of the many huddle voodoo believers, it should spook you because this team had one of the most disappointing losses in NFL history, losing in the NFCCG game to the Falcons in OT. Those shitbirds robbed us of a fantastic SB match up between the Vikes and Broncos. Team was never the same after this year, Viking fans still whine about it.

2005 Steelers

Went to the AFCCG before losing to the Pats. had the number 1 defense and rushing attack and just trusted a rookie Roethlisberger to not fug up. Their only loss was to the Ravens in week 2. Steelers would eventually win the Bowl the next year.

2011 Packers

Probably the weakest of the bunch imo. the defending champs had the 1st overall offense, but only the 19th ranked defense. They squeeked by the Giants 38-35 two weeks before an inexplicable loss to the fuging Chiefs of all teams. The Giants would then kick their ass in the playoffs, and the Packers were 15-1 and done. Thank God the Giants are done.

So, the Panthers are just the 6th 15-1 team, and trying to be the first since the 85 bears to win the super bowl. How do you feel as if they stack up against these juggernauts? Are they le worst 15-1 team ever?

We won't know the answer to this question until the panthers play a couple of playoff games. Soo much of our ranking would heavily depend on playoff performance.

That being said our offense is no where near as good as 98' vikings in terms of sheer firepower. Our defensive has been good overall but pales in comparison to the legendary 85' bears defense.

If we win our playoff games convincingly and win Super Bowl you could make an argument for us being #2 or #3 , since you could make the argument even though our offense isn't as great as 98' vikings we made actually manage to make it to the big game and win it which is a gigantic difference. No way in 10 hells we'll be ranked above 85 bears unless we put on 3 disgustingly one sided shutouts en route to hoisting the lombardi.

Its going to be impossible to really say until the postseason is over.  if we win it all we could be as high as #2 on this list but if we go out in the first round you could argue we belong at or near the bottom.  If the 85 Bears had lost their first playoff game then, fairly or not, nobody would remember them as a historically great team.

10 hours ago, King said:

you're overstating the importance of the Super Bowl

The 2007 Patriots had the greatest offense that ever existed in the NFL

losing the Super Bowl doesn't change that

There's no such thing as 'overstating the importance of the Super Bowl'.

The Super Bowl is everything in the NFL.
