McDermott interested in Eagles job; Might not be mutual

It'd be awesome to see the Giants and Eagles get into a bidding war for McDermott.  Either one is getting a good coach, but a lot of times the players and coaches that come to Carolina thrive because they are out of the limelight and they can focus on work.  I don't know enough about McDermott to say if he has the charisma and personality to handle the New York media.  It certainly ruined Rex Ryan.

I would link the tweet, but Twitter's blocked at work -_-...you can probably find it if you check his timeline.

I found it dude, but I'm afraid it doesn't say that.

#Browns traveling to Charlotte to interview #Panther DC Sean McDermott on Thursday night. Expected to be candidate with #Eagles too

Only says he's expected to be a candidate.  There are no other mentions of McDermott.

They may be interested.  Heck, they should be interested.  But at least to this point, I can't find anything that indicates they definitely are.

Have the Eagles scheduled any interviews other than in house ones like Shurmur? I really haven't heard much out of them especially when compared to the Browns who've apparently decided to interview everyone that's ever even been around football.

Adam Gase.

They were also reported to be part of the Sean Payton derby.

The Eagles haven't confirmed any other interviews, although they are reportedly set to meet with Jaguars assistant and former Bills head coach Doug Marrone and Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin later this week.

There was also a FoxSports.com report that the Eagles have interest in interviewing Buccaneers offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, although an NFL source said the team has yet to reach out. Koetter also interviewed for the Eagles job three years ago.

Panthers and former Eagles defensive coordinator Sean McDermott expressed his interest in the Eagles vacancy during an interview with WPEN-FM (97.5) on Tuesday morning. But the team had yet to contact the 40-year-old, who is scheduled to interview with the Browns on Thursday.

McDermott is permitted to interview this week because the 15-1 Panthers have a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson doesn't have that luxury. Cincinnati hosts the Steelers on Saturday. But the 49ers and Dolphins have requested permission to interview Jackson in the future. The Eagles have not, according to a league source.

Of course I always been of the belief, based on when Rivera was first hired and what he said concerning searching for coordinators, that Rivera pretty much controlled the defensive side of the ball.  Yall seen him pulling the entire defense together on sideline shots a couple of times during games.  He is definitely the mastermind behind our defense.  I wish McDermott well in his search for a HC job, but losing him won't be a big deal.

When we were talking about McDermott as a head coach for us when we hired Rivera, the point was made that he has virtually no head coach experience at any level and he has really never been anywhere except Philadelphia and now here.  He is not being hired as a defensive coordinator but as a head coach.  The question is not whether he will be a good defensive coordinator but whether he will be a great head coach which are actually very different.  Even with all the teams Rivera either played on or coached over the years, he had a lot to learn about being a head coach.  If Richardson had not been patient with him over the first 2 years when people were calling for his head, he would never have done what he has done here. Given that Kelly had 2 -10 win seasons and only 1 losing season this year and he was canned, how patient will they be with McDermott.  After all they canned him after only 2 seasons as a DC last time he was there.  I would think that New York is a better fit not only because of the Gettleman connection with their brass, but their willingness to be more patient than Philly.  Just my opinion......

Here's the thing, if a team really wants you that bad then they will wait until whenever your team is done playing to interview. Feeling like you have to jump on an interview is a red flag and will probably just end with you being fired when things go bad. Worry about stopping Russell Wilson on 3rd down because he ate your lunch last year.

This is why Cleveland is a perennial dumpster fire.

They have no patience with anybody.

My point is, there are ways to conduct yourself in business.  In my opinion, he can't get himself out of Carolina fast enough.  That's super damaging to ones reputation.

He should have advertised on criags list. Cleveland should look for for a HC there for sure.
