It's CJ's time to step up, or get out

It was actually meant more with an eye toward th future. What is CJs cap hit in 2016?

Not that it justifies keeping him but it goes down about 5M. His dead money goes down too and allows for us to free up about 10 or 11M I think.

I highly doubt CJ is here next year anyway. CJ has absolutely no release off the LOS. He can't beat tackles to get to the QB anymore. So he's relying on just strength and trying to overpower tackles and he can't do it. Mainly because you need those legs to push. Those leg injuries messed him up. Everything started when the Pats did that dirty leg swipe in 2013

CJ had a sack last week, and Seattle's run game really never got going, so he did his thing stopping the run. He had a pretty good game last week.

I think he gets a sack or 2 Sunday.

I'm hoping so as well. I so badly want him to turn on the Carolina version of beast mode and end this season on a high note. We need such a performance from him, but more importantly HE needs such a performance!

Came here to say this. He's been on a steady decline since that game.

I'm pulling for him of course, and appreciate everything he has done for this team. One of the longest tenured players on the roster.

To tell a player to "put up or GTFO" from behind a computer screen is equally sad and embarassing.

Reading comprehension seems to be taking a nose dive with you. Im not telling CJ anything. I am speaking an opinion as we all do here. Seriously bro, do you not read the boards and see the crap said about players and their play here???

I get the attitude towards CJ, but I think the two conversations are independent of one another. Johnson has had a rough season where he hasn't really contributed as much as he has in the past. He is playing through injury for the second straight season and is a year removed from a major death in his family that hit close to his heart.

CJ did have a sack last week against Seattle, so for those asking where the sacks are, there's one.... and it was less than a week ago.

As for 2016-17 and beyond, that's a conversation for the offseason, and not the week of the NFC Championship Game. At 30 years old and the cap hit he is due, there will certainly have to be discussion amongst the staff and Johnson.  Could be a restructure or an out right release. Thing is, CJ could easily go down to ATL and give them a few good years of veteran help on the edge and bite us in the ass too.

CJ has been one of the constants here for a long time. For awhile, he was undervalued around the league, though he put up quiet numbers. He's one of the defensive leaders and his voice matters with this team, as well as the organization, IMO.

I think Johnson is fighting through a nagging injury and though he doesn't show up in the box scores, his presence is still a vital part of this team's 16-1 season, as well as the previous years of success.  For that, I don't think it's an ultimatum of "produce or hit the road".

He's frustrated all of us this year, but this, IMO is not a conversation to have this week. I'm hoping Johnson can find his niche and get after Palmer a bit.  Let's worry about the $$ hit in a few months.  DG has this team under control and on the right track for long-term success. I'm sure this organization will make the right decision.

Why is it not a conversation for this week when WE NEED HIM TO SHOW UP? It's not as if he is gonna read this board and get sad and go into a shell. It is however a week when with Allen down, and we have seemed to struggle with pressure from the ends most of the season, that we need him to have a breakout game. The title of the thread could have been worded better i will admit, but only for diplomatic reasons. In the end, this is his chance to shine and secure a place on this team. I'm rooting for him as I said in the OP, but seriously though.....this game (and possibly the superbowl) will literally make or break his future with the team. Like it or not, he needs to do something.

Chuck has been playing through pain all season long. Hard for me to criticize that.

Mhm,  yeah,   sure.     But there is no denying that since Charles came back from injury,  he has not been the same player.   The other defensive ends have not been the same players either,  since he came back.

I don't know.    I just don't know what to make of it.
