Hurney deserves some credit for some great players. Good all around teams and vision are more difficult to come by than a few superstars that anyone would have chosen in those spots.

Gettleman built this machine and philisophy, Hurney just provided a few great parts.

I have no way of proving this. But, if Rivera had the relationship with Hurney that he has with Gman, things may have worked out differently. Gman and Rivera talk over coffee almost every day. From what I have heard, Hurney and Rivera only talked when they had to.

IMO, it is that daily interaction between Rivera and Gman that has built the foundation of this team. They talk about more than just football. Which helped form a bond. They are on the same page now. They have a plan that they both agree with, and there is no disconnect between the field general, and the powers that be.

That relationship is the basis of what we are. And as long as those two keep working together, we are going to be a force to be dealt with. Yea team.

The Panther mirror the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies to a tee.  Ed Wade was the original GM that brought in Cole Hamels, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, and Ryan Howard.  But even with all that talent they needed someone to find the ancillary pieces.  So the Phillies fired Wade and brought in Pat Gillick.  He was able to fill the holes that Wade couldn't.  And turned the Phillies into World Series Champions.

It is kind of like what is going on with the Panthers.  Marty Hurney brought in the talent, but couldn't find the additional pieces needed to make that talent into a championship team.

fug baseball...and Hurney drafting a handful of key guys is a far cry from him running the correctly to get us to this point. He ran the team into the ground. Gentleman has come in, picked up the pieces, filled in the gaps and molded a championship organization. there's a lot more to the transition the panthers have made than just talent.
