Free Agent DB's

Looking at this list, if we can't sign Norman to a deal, oh well cause tagging for all that money is a waste with all the talent free agents. Then what's going to happen for 2017? Tag him again? You looking at losing, but possibly beefing up that defense backfield

Sean Smith, Prince Amukamara, Trumaine Johnson, Morris Claiborne, Nolan Carroll, Janoris Jenkins

Not to mention Eric Weddle & Eric Berry (who yes are FS), but I know Kurt can play SS

Then I took a look at 2017 FA DB's, there's going to be a push by teams to lock several up this year.

Love to have one but it would be a luxury at this point.  Janoris Jenkins would be my sick fantasy but that is not likely. We would no doubt have the best coverage unit in the NFL.

luxury? After Norman, the only other CB we have is Bene and he is better suited as a slot corner. We need an actual starter.

More realistic options for us might be Jeremy Lane (SEA) and Patrick Robinson (SD). I know we were interested in Robinson last offseason and PFF graded him pretty well playing the nickel for the Chargers. Probably would come relatively cheap. Lane would be a good get as well, plus we'd be taking him from the Seahawks.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
