Underwhelming Combine

OP brought up the 0.1% of the genetic freaks. It's like saying yeah Richardson is a billionaire but he's no Bill Gates. One of those brought up walked on to the UNC basketball team. Sorry if this draft doesn't have that once in a lifetime player

We won't know that last part until they start playing the games.

I can't recall a combine that I was nore unimpressed with in regards to size/athleticism.

Just for exanple, Bosa is the concensus #1...  he's got ideal size for a DE/outside rusher, but he ran a 4.9.  Compare that to guys like Peppers, Watt, and Clowney, and it's a joke.

Obviously, all that matters is if a guy can play the game, but the numbers do give some insight and this entire rookie class is by far one of, if not THE least impressive group of athletes I can recall in my years of keeping up with the combine.

Honestly, I don't really care this year that the OLB/DT/DE doesn't have any freaks, as we are drafting in the 30 slot.  Were we top 10 and in the hunt for a breakout/freak at DE, I would care.

This.  Any of the freaks wouldn't be available for us anyway unless there were major red flags and then they wouldn't be on our draft board.

The twitchier edge should be in the second DL group about to go. Spence, Nicholas, McCalister, Lawson and Nkemdiche are a few of the guys who should test pretty well. The first group was mainly just the big guys. It isn't a great group and there really aren't any freaks but there should be a much more athletic showing coming up from the edges.

I won't be surprised if Gettleman falls in love with Carl Nassib.  Ideal size, great production at a power program, and the guy's motor never stops running.

I LOVE this kid.  Many on here are not a fan of him.  But size speed motor and work ethic.  This kid has it all 6'7 277 and has the fastest 10 yard split of anyone right now.  I look at that more than the 40. Linemen aren't going to be sprinting down field but you are looking at how fast they can burst out.  And it says a Lot when a NFL head coach says this kid has the hardest work ethic and one of the best motors of any kid he's coached.  I don't care about the one year wonder deal here because he came in as a undersized Walkon who never started in highschool.  Especially with his work ethic.

Nassib had a good 10 yard. He and Bullard have a similar game to me, they win with length and power but have the speed to finish.

I wonder if the fans' growing disillusionment with what the combine actually tells us has affected the overall perception of it to players and agents. I think at this point most people seem to know that a lot of the combine numbers don't really matter in a football sense and that a lot of great players may underperform and lesser players may look better than usual. Seems like the best thing for the players is to come in at a reasonable weight and in shape, have a clean medical record, and interview well with teams. The rest of it maybe isn't going to matter as much as everyone used to think, so why train all winter to run a perfect 40.

Or maybe there are no elite level athletes coming out this year.

He's definitely on roids right? 8 straight years in high school and college without starting and suddenly he gets like 17 sacks? I call BS
