Josh Norman Contract talks have stalled, bruh is getting the franchise tag.

I've been on hiatus since the SB, because the dumbassery that followed was too much to deal with. But I'm slowly easing my way back into the swing of things.

Which leads me to my first question; what the fug is the deal with these remedial thread titles running rampant?

I'll almost guarantee you that he'll hold out.

Just let his butt go. He's not exactly a saint in the locker-room and he is not worth a tag.

If anyone should get a tag, it should be Tolbert (if Tolbert is indeed a free-agent and gets the FB designation rather than the RB distinction.)

Josh isn't worth a penny over 9-million per and I think that's being generous considering how he ended the season compared to how he began.

I have questions about his motor and attitude but I don't blame him for trying to go out and get his...because this is his one shot to get a career deal.

Josh bet on himself and hit the jackpot. He played his position very well this year. Have you even looked at the stats vs. him? As for not playing well , I don't know what you're talking about. No one can stop everything.

In regards to the 9 mil, you may think this, but unfortunately the people that know football won't. Even if you believe that Norman is suspect, his play since the second part of '14 says that he should get top five money.

Really, man, comparatively, Josh has been a beast for what he has brought to the table for the last season and a half. I doubt that there is anyone that we can get better.

Too bad, Panthers and Norman could have been something special for years to come.

DG is going to put more of a priority on finding the talent for a decent pass rush than breaking the bank on a DB.

I don't care what you guys think about my post. He got in a fight with Cam, he nonstop talks smack on the field and all he cares about is getting his. It's Smitty all over again.

Same guy every time trying to get under peoples skin with stupidly titled threads for breaking news.

It's the offseason, we needed something to talk about, I was bored, etc.  I could keep going on with my excuses, if you would like.

I want to say I am surprised that an agreement couldn't be reached.  Love Norman, his character, fiery attitude on the field, and being a local boy.   Using the Franchise tag on the top DB in football this past year isn't a bad thing.  Really wanted a deal done IMO. My slightly concern was he turns 29 this year and really didn't think a long term deal of 5-6 years would have been accurate for the situation.  I was thinking on the lines of a 3 year deal worth about 12-13 mill a year.  GettleMagic makes the moves in which I trust completely.    I agree he deserves to be paid like a top 5 CB in the league because he proved it this year.   With the franchise tag most likely coming his way, unless a deal is reached, I would be really interested in seeing how his play is effected.  I mean he did ball out on a contract year.  But with the tag he would be up again for contract year.  Can bash this post all you want, but my gut feeling is if we tag him he is gone next year and will most likely seek a huge deal from some other non-playoff team willing to overpay a 30 year old corner.

Let me reiterate that I LOVE Norman, but it is a business.

Tag him but keep working on a deal if he wants hold out thats his loss cause imo DG will find a way yo put this team in the best possible position to win titles. Also he is pushing 30 and i think holding out doesnt do much but drop his stock especially if he wants to hold out for the season....

He was always going to get the franchise tag. They'll still keep trying for a deal.

I agree but the tag could also be a precursor to a trade as well.  The Raiders ($60+ million) and Jaguars ($70+ million) have an ungodly amount of cap space and corner as their #1 listed need.  JNo was not a GMan pick and imho it's a "fluid" situation where I'm also neutral.  I want JNo back but the only long term guarantees on this team are Cam and Luke.  Getting nothing for him but one year at a high number is starting not to sit well with me either.

If next season Josh has another outstanding performance there is likely some GM out there that will pay him the big money.

Chances are DG isn't going to be that GM.

I am a Panthers fan over a fan of any one player.  If the Panthers don't want to over-pay for a player, I trust they know what is best for the organization.  I'd rather the Panthers continue to win.....year after year....than sign our favorite players to a contract that hurts the team long-term.  Remember, Gettleman inherited many of these types of contracts when he took over a few years ago.  They obviously don't think Norman is worth the money he is asking for, and/or they don't think giving him that money will help the team long-term.

Perhaps not, but Norman will be made a solid multimillionaire by our GM this year.

And neither should he. Any player willing to hold-up the progress of this organization is a cancer and we brought Coleman off the couch and he went plum-nuts gonzo while taking the shine off of the year J-No had...seriously, a guy off the couch.

    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
    • Winning ain't gonna make my eyes lie to me. Context matters, and it will always matter in the game of football.
    • That TD pass to Legette against Miami. Elite. The play where Bryce rolls right to buy time until Tet can reverse field.  Bryce pumps as multiple defenders close in.  He barely gets it away before he takes a big time hit.  Beautiful off platform throw and great catch by Tet.   The second TD to Tet against Dallas where Bryce dips and turns his shoulder in to evade the pass rusher.  Resets and finds Tet in the end zone. Dude embodies the Keep Pounding mantra.
