The expected and right move.

Even if you hate him after the Super Bowl and never want him to start for us again, he is at worst a mediocre starting OT and would be a great backup swing tackle which is worth $2.5M.

The people who hate him should watch some more game footage of Nate Chandler....bless his heart.

Saying someone is good simply because someone else isn't is incorrect, but I do agree 100% that Remmers is far from the worst RT Carolina has fielded in recent years. I'd even go so far as to say someone can watch any season from 2011-mid-2014 and compare to Remmers to see what he brings to the table... there were more bad performances than good in that timespan.

Glad to see this.  Hope Daryl Williams balls out and becomes our new starting RT, but Remmers has been solid.  Obviously he was lousy in the SB, but so were a lot of our players.  Remmers could become very valuable as a swing backup on the Oline for multiple positions.  This is very good news.  Hopefully no other team will want him with that 2nd round draft pick they'd have to give up.  It may have helped us that everyone's most recent memory is his terrible game.  He had something like 22 or 23 solid games out of 26... so, I'll take that.

I feel like the 2nd round tender isn't just fair compensation for Remmers, it'd also be fair compensation for us if somebody fell in love with him. Even in the event that he loses his starting job to Williams, $2.5M is more than a value for a player with his talent and versatility on the OL.

CHARLOTTE - The Panthers have retained the rights to restricted free agent Mike Remmersicon-article-link.gif , their starting right tackle last season, and have re-signed restricted free agent wide receiver Stephen Hillicon-article-link.gif to a one-year contract.

By tendering a contract to Remmers, Carolina retains the right of first refusal on any contract offers made by other teams to Remmers by the April 22 deadline. The Panthers would receive a draft pick if they chose to not match an offer.

Remmers took over as the Panthers' starting right tackle with five games remaining in the 2014 regular season and has been the starter for all 21 regular season games and all five postseason games since. The Panthers are 22-4 in those games.

An undrafted rookie out of Oregon State in 2012, Remmers joined the Panthers midway through the 2015 season when Carolina signed him off St. Louis' practice squad.

    • Give me Anthony Hill Jr or give me death
    • We need a Sam Off Ball Backer to pair with Lloyd. Lloyd is a strong Interior Will especially in Pass Coverage- but that is also Trevin Wallace’s archetype. Need a Rozeboom style run stopper. Rodriguez and Allen fit that
    • There aren’t that many ways to screw Day 2 up.  That’d be them making an obvious reach, or selecting at one of the few positions that we are pretty solid at. Because as excited as we are for the growth and improvement this team is showing, it’s still not an overly talented or deep roster. Honestly, there aren’t really many positions I’d feel bad about. Feelings about Bryce aside (because we are not going to select a QB), it’s really RB (bad positional value) and that’s it. I guess OT too since we grabbed Freeling in Round 1.    While not as high on my wish list as other spots, you can justify WR or TE.     Interior offensive lineman who would likely take over an interior spot either this year (at center) or guard (next for cap casualty of Hunt or Lewis)? Fine by me.   Dlineman? Yes, that’s a highly rotational position and we have zero quality depth.    ILB? Yep, could stand for an upgrade over Wallace.    EDGE? Absolutely wouldn’t hate another option to spell Phillips, Scourton, and Princely.    FS?  Would love to add better coverage skill set to the backend of the defense. Moehrig and Ransom are great in run support but not as good deep. Adding a more traditional FS would allow us to mix and match/run some 3 safety sub packages and or a big nickel type look with a SS down near the line for better run support in possible pass downs.    CB? Could stand to get better at nickel.
