Positions that need to be filled before the draft.

Gettleman preaches using free agency to allow you to go BPA in draft. In order for that to happen it would be nice to fill these holes first.

Strong safety - Harper is gone and Dean Marlowe is the only true strong safety still on the roster.

CB- I love Norman and hope we find a way to lock him up long term. I am not as sold on Bene as some are on here. The depth behind them currently is  Mcclain, Teddy Williams, Ras-i Dowling, Louis Young, and travell Dixon. We obviously need some help here even if you have extreme confidence in Bene, as he's the only one signed past this season and his contract expires after the 17 Season.

WR- The only 4 receivers we currently have that should inspire any confidence would be Benjamin,Funchess,Ginn and Brown. There are some guys who may step up next year in Stephen Hill, and Kevin Norwood, but I would feel much more comfortable with a proven vet to take the place of Cotchery.

DE- This will most likely be addressed in the draft. However much like receiver, this group needs a good veteran presence/depth to take the place of the Role Allen came in and played last year.

DT-  Star and Short is as much as you can ask for in terms of a starting Duo. With Dwan Edwards being cut and Kyle Love as a free agent we have nobody on the roster behind Star and Short. Well to be technical we have Eric Crume and Chas Alexcih. This is more than just needing backups, we need quality depth that can be relied upon to play in a rotation here.

Anybody you have in mind you'd like us to add to fill in these holes?

Just now, Captain Morgan said:

I really hope we sign Love and another CB.  I don't think we'll see a vet WR that we can afford who can actually contribute, unless someone out there wants a run at a ring.

Colston and Boldin come to mind for vet WR's. I think both could/would be an upgrade over what Cotchery was.

RB  - Fozzy needs to be reevaluated, both as a KR and scat back.  I honestly would not be surprised to see Toddman back at camp, re-competing for those two roles.

I'm also not really sure how DG/RR vision the future of CAP (or technically Whegher) and whether or not he takes over for J-Stew.  You would have thought we would have seen more CAP last year, especially later in games that were out of reach.  We saw more I/A CAP than we did seeing them split a timeshare.

Agree w @Captain Morgan that it would be good to re-sign Love if at all possible and he's affordable.  He was a solid part of our rotation, and while there are good DTs we can probably get in the draft, I'd rather go into the draft with only 1 DT hole, not two.

I also like @X-Clown on 1's idea to bring Jordan Todman back to camp to compete.  As much as I love Fozzy, I think Todman was better.  Fozzy didn't show much this past year.  Todman looked good...

I'd never object to having Boldin on the team if we could get him for a low vet deal.

Need to think more about who I'd like to see at CB and S.   I don't think we'll get Weddle, so I need to look at what safeties might be out there.

DE doesn't seem like a big need for a FA any longer now that CJ has re-signed.

On offense we could use another TE and a quality tackle that wasn't great but was solid on either side. Vets with skills wanting a ring thinking we might be the best way.  Wide receiver is set except for depth. Even then we have a number of contenders for spots. That usually leads to better quality players who can contribute or start right away. Something we had last year which contributed to our fast start.

I know boldin is a popular name but it really would be a good signing.

great hands, great blocker, tough as nails, fights for the ball, physical and a good dude for the locker room. Would def be a cotchery-type signing.

we desperately need an influx of depth talent on the dline. That's probably the most important thing I hope we shore up before the draft.

    • Me, signing up for FanDuel Network, and then canceling FanDuel Network:
    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
    • Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.
