Kaepernick not taking pay cut, no trade

bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports Colin Kaepernick will not be traded to the Broncos.

Per Cole, Kaepernick will not take a pay cut, and the 49ers refuse to "pay off part of deal to make trade happen." You should never say never in the high-stakes game of NFL negotiations, but it appears the 49ers and Kap are now working toward a reconciliation. Kap reported for the start of the team's offseason program on Monday. By staying in San Francisco, Kap would be locking himself into $14.3 million between salary and bonuses. He's probably decided it's worth gambling on himself for 2016.

Personally, I think that it's a dumb decision, but admittedly I never believed in Kelly's long term success.  Denver is a more stable environment where he is almost guaranteed the starting gig. You would think that he'd beat out Gabbert in San Fran, but you'd have thought that last season (and don't use the smokescreen of injury). I think the kid is missing the bigger picture. The potential for a train wreck is real in Frisco. When they get behind in so many games, which they will because the defense is lacking, all the pressure will be on Kap. And one of his major security blankets in Boldin is probably not going to be there. Kap in a fast offense based on timing...I don't know. Frisco isn't Philly where Kelly had a bunch of talent when he made his grand entrance.

He's a better fit with Kelly anyways. Denver has a better roster but I don't see Kubiak sticking with the guy the minute he shows he's not willing do it Kubiak's way. Probably a good move on his part even if staying comes with it's own possible pitfalls.

Kap needs to do it another way.

Kubiak Mike Shanahaning him like Shanahan did Bob isn't the way he should do it.

I agree, but you're comparing apples to oranges. What Sham---err Shanahan did to RG3 was bordering on criminal. Part if the problem was letting the tail wag the dog. If anything, what you're suggesting is that Kubiak will be on the other end of the spectrum. Personally, I believe that Kubiac was a better QB coach than HC. I think that hr would help Kap, not hinder him. When a coach has a good record, perhaps you should listen to him. Looks like we'll never know though. Let's see trains collide on the Bay.

not afraid to admit i'm happy about that

kaepernick flamed out in SF but he's still young with a huge amount of talent.  the possibility of him having tangibly improved with a change of scenery and being on a team that's still pretty stacked like denver's wasn't appealing to me.

considering they won the SB with a broken down Manning, I am quite glad they didn't get a guy who torched the Packers in Lambeau for 200 yards on the ground alone only 3 years ago.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
