Bill Voth agrees, TE could be the pick at 30

Jerrell Adams intrigues me in the middle rounds. He has the height-weight-speed to be an elite TE whereas the other guys are more polished coming out, but have lower ceilings.

I really liked Tyler Higbee, but I'm pretty sure he is off our board after he put a guy in a coma for a week. He would be off mine.

Thanks for sharing.  I like it and could grow to love it.  Don't LOVE it now only because "freakier" TEs like Gronk and Graham were taken slightly later in the draft.  Even ASJ 2 years ago (though lazy) was more of a physical freak.  Witten was a 3rd rounder as well.  Maybe his football player father bloodlines, the fact he catches everything, and intangibles make up the difference.  Kid does look solid at worst.  Little bust factor is nice.

Voth makes a great point--we are beginning to build for the future by having star talent come in and sit behind the already superstar talent we have.  That means a TE is most definitely being drafted . . . just not maybe in the first or second round.  What's the point in reaching for a guy like H. Henry if we still have Olsen?  I know, i know . . . the future, the future.  And that's true.  But is that reason alone worth taking him in the 1st/trade up in the 2d?  I'd say it isn't.  If he is going to sit a lot [see Shaq], then what's the point?  Take someone with higher potential and let him learn the system as H. Henry would be doing anyway.  I understand that we would like to start running two-TE sets immediately, but there are other positions that need to be reinforced before that, and if the value is there at those positions, I could see us skipping on H. Henry altogether.  That's just one scenario, but I guarantee Getts and crew have had that exact conversation.  What would be even better is if we trade down out of the first if it's possible.  There just isn't much value anywhere.  And with our new cap situation, we can afford to carry more low cost picks.

I wouldn't say that a TE will definitely be taken in this draft.  Overall, this is a very weak TE class.  The fact that Henry is still only being talked about as a borderline 1st round pick when he's head and shoulders the best TE prospect in the draft is a testament to how weak the TE class is.

I can't see us taking any TE other than Henry. Henry's grown on me a lot but still think there will be better options available in the 1st. Would be ecstatic to get him in the 2nd, though not sure I want to give up our 3rd which would likely be required to move up and get him. Would be a dream come true if he fell all the way to 62.

Funny bit of of potential symmetry.... TE class was weak when Olsen was selected with the second to last pick in the first round by the Bears. And Olsen was head and shoulders above the rest of his class that year too. Also a Ron Rivera team had just lost to a Peyton Manning lead team in the Super Bowl.

Interestingly enough, Bill Voth does not think Derrick Henry is in play at 30 for us. He refers back to a Gman quote in which he says that if you take a RB in the 1st, he better be a three down back.

Derrick was not a 3 down guy bc Alabama had Kenyan Drake.

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
