I Don't Get The Celebration Here...

I don't see anything humiliating about this, Josh overvalued himself and underestimated DG. Now he has the chance to get the money he wants, if a team willing to pay it. Or he can come back and take the deal the Panthers have offered. Business.

There is no defending Josh in this situation. He acted like an immature ass throughout the process. I am not blaming him for going after more money but he could have handled it better. No one needed to see his offseason media tour, and you can see how not respected he is around the league. I cannot think of another player that has had so many other players in the NFL come out publicly and take shots at them like Josh had.

the more I think about it the more I think Gettleman made the right move. Jared Allen said our locker room was one with zero distractions. He is a hall of famer and said it was the single best locker room he's ever been in. If Josh wants to bring drama into that locker room and skip next weeks camp, then good riddance.

Josh Norman has given us about 20 regular season games. David Gettleman has given us a 3 straight division championships and a NFC title.

Lol, man, you know that's not what I'm saying.  That is absurd.  What i AM saying is that is how negotiations work...  each side starts with a number they know they're going to have to move off of and in the end, each side hopes to be the one that moved the least.  But, in order to continue negotiating you have to grind through the bullshit and posturing - like not signing a tag or deciding not to come to offseason workouts.  What player in that situation signs the tag immediately and does all the OTAs and voluntary stuff?  None that I recall, unless they knew they were maybe a couple thousands apart...

I just think this was unleashing a nuke when it wasn't necessary.

Obviously Josh didn't budge off his number one bit or this wouldn't have happened.  From the reports I saw Dave was offering around 12M per so he came up from 7 to 12.  Josh is demanding 15 to 16 and hasn't budged.  Dave is never going to pay that and I don't blame him.  So how is this on the team exactly?

It's really not a Steve Smith deal. That's comparing apples to oranges. But it does send a message that if you want to play here, you're going to do it within Gettleman's budgetary expectations, irrespective of market value.

As for the Huddle, the Huddle is gonna Huddle. There are always going to be those among us that irrationally poo on players that end up in another uniform regardless of the realities of the situation.

Personally, it's not a time for celebration, but neither is it a time to panic. One man does not make a team.

Uhhhh...he very well may have released Josh so he can get paid NOW, long-term, while we focus on guys who will be here long term. Win-win for both. Gettleman seemingly wanted a long-term deal as evidenced by the tag and talking to him and his agent. They were far apart. Gettleman, according to Person, either sought a trade or gave Josh's agent permission to ask about a trade. Nothing happened. Not seeing how you fault GMan here.

If he played the franchised tag and got hurt God forbid...there goes any chance at making big money. So just by flipping the logic, Gettleman did him a favor. Gettleman was rumored to be willing to go 11-12 million a year, Josh thought he was worth more.

And publicly humiliated? Come on. They pulled his damn franchise tag. They didn't put him on camera, pull down his pants, laugh at him, and say go play for vet min. Jesus.

Ask your boss for a job, tell all your friends and family how well you did at work and you are negotiating your raise, then go back and tell them all you asked for too much and the company decided to fire you as a result.  Lol...  that's not humiliating?

I hadn't read about the trade stuff, so good points there.  I'm aware he can get paid anywhere, but the sentiment behind my post was that he wanted to be here and we wanted him back.  Yes, we were far apart, but eventually he would've had to come down, especially considering he was already able to negotiate with other teams and apparently that didn't blossom into anything either.  This just seems to be a pride thing...

So you're saying the team should've met his demands to save Josh the embarrassment?  What did he think would happened if the team wouldn't pay his asking price and he wouldn't sign the tag?  Should the team allow him to hold out and leave them without his services knowing a deal would never be reached?  How is it possible to avoid what inevitably happened?

No, but they knew his price long ago....and they tagged him.  Definitely could of used him one more season.

and he would have eventually signed his tag.  No way around it.   So you only have to deal with the little headache the game he plays brings and Carolina has been dealing with Norman's junk for awhile.  Finally reached a point his nonsense was finally worth it

Josh earned his money, so in that sense it comes back to Gettleman. If you're telling me that Getty is without blame, I will tell you that Josh is without blame as well (and maybe even more so). Like I said in the other thread, it's just business.

I kind of feel you, diddy. It's low key sickening sometimes to see the people on here cheer after a player is thought to be low balled. I go back to the Boykin contract. Boykin was looking for a shot at winning a ring, and proving he could compete at a high level after his stint with the steelers. He took a low contract, a kind of prove it deal. You had some on here who applauded Boykin for the deal, but there were some on here with the 'Gettleman's a mob boss, he low balled him. Gettlemagic!' Same with CJ's situation.

*shrugs* I don't know. I mean I understand it's a business, but on here, fans will cheer when the panthers go about things business-like, but when the players try to handle their business, they are looked upon as being greedy.

Oh well, I guess. Business is business. Josh had to get his and the panthers had to get theirs. Hopefully, it works out for both parties. I'm a panthers fan, so hopefully we pick up where we left off last year and get a ring. I'd like to see Josh get his pay day, and find some success. He's a good guy, so he deserves both. We've lost a damn good corner, so hopefully DG has a plan. I'm slightly fearful of another Cason situation.

If I'm asking for a roughly 1000% raise like Josh is after a year and a half of good to great performance, my boss would probably be a little hesitant as well. Another company might hire me for that price, though.

I love Josh the player. Seems awesome off the field as well. But I love the Panthers more. I'll take re-signing KK and Star over Josh any day.

No, Josh didn't earn 15-16m based on 1.5 years of work. 12-14m was more than enough. Again, Norman got to play with the likes of Kuechly, Davis, Short, Shaq, Star, Ealy, etc. If he couldn't see how lucky he was then... oh well. Go get paid, son

With all due respect, Josh is worth whatever the market says he's worth.

With the yearly salary cap increases, relatively shortly, 15 mil is going to be the going rate for top corners in the league. Indeed, I know at least one arguably inferior corner that is making that now.
