same way the eagles did.  say they get our 3rd round comp pick if we get one.  if we don't, they get our regular 3rd round pick

But what happens if we trade our 3rd to move up. How they going to get a 3rd from a team that doesn't have one? If we bring in a FA that tops the cap, we won't get a comp 3rd either. I just don't see how you can use a pick you don't even know if you will have.

But hey, this is the NFL. Rules change.

You cannot trade comp picks.

You're correct, but if we finish this season going far into the playoffs, the difference in our 2-3rd rounders will only be a few picks apart, so it won't be such a big-difference trading our 3rd, when we'll have another pick shortly thereafter.

We can actually upgrade the Corners we already have by signing a solid safety.

The puckin's are pretty thin in the UFA CB-department.

One good thing is that CB is one of the most deep and talented groups of positional players in this draft.

Im sure GMan knows he can draft BPA at DE, S and CB in no particular order and we get younger and can "keep moving forward."

This has been one heckuva offseason so far and dollar Dave has barely scratched the surface of our huge pile of cap cash.

You people really need to catch up on current events. The NFL allowed for the trading of comp picks starting with next year's draft, and teams have twice already used them in trades this year as a potential substitute for their actual draft picks should they materialize.

But hey, why actually do research when you can look up Batman memes instead?

Sure enough. I stand completely corrected, though Batman memes will always remain an option.

I would assume if this sort of trade went through we wouldn't be allowed to trade our third in another deal. I would go into escrow, sorta.

One way to dispense knowledge is to treat the student with respect. You may want to remember that. Or you can just continue to be a condescending jerk. Whatever works for you.

How can you trade comp picks, when you don't know if you will even get any? But hey, you are probably the smartest one in the room. So there you go.

Hes not talking about trading comp picks . Hes talking about trading our 2017 3rd rd pick to move up because we will get a 3rd rd comp to balance it out

This^^

Also next yr you can trade comp picks, they changed the rule at the mtgs this year, but you cannot trade this year - it goes into effect next year.  But even if we could not trade the comp pick, we could trade the regular pick and then use the comp pick - this is what the OP is talking about -  there would probably be a few spots difference between them if we have the type of year we have had the last three years.  As deep as the DT and some other areas are this year, I could see DG doing that to move back into or move up in the second this year if someone falls that he has a first rd grade on.

You're not my student, but if you wanna use that analogy, then why say the "teacher" is wrong when you don't know the subject?

My frustration was more at the guy who took the time to Google an image instead of just fact-checking himself. My apologies for getting you in the crossfire.

They're treating these future compensatory picks like conditional picks, in that they realize they're not guaranteed to get them.

I mean, I'm not making up the fact that teams have already traded future comp. picks.

You can't trade your 2016 comp. picks, but starting now you can trade compensatory picks from 2017 and 2018. Granted, while teams can at least have an idea of what comp. picks they'll get next year, it's really hard to know what they'll be looking at in 2018, especially given the fact that the decision process is largely a mystery even to our own Dave Gettleman. Basically these trades have verbiage like "we'll trade our 4th OR a compensatory 3rd, if we get it."

ESPN's Field Yates had a more lengthy explanation of the notice the NFL sent to the teams: https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1100634396654532&id=762507080467267&__tn__=%2As

Not quite sure what you mean there, and I may have worded my statement wrong or misunderstood you, but I am agreeing with you on this.

Ok, the "you cannot trade this year" had me confused. They really overcomplicated this by telling teams they can trade this year, just that they can't be this year's picks.

I should have worded it better, and I totally agree, they way over-complicated this process unnecessarily.

Better to trade down.....can't trade up enough to get a truly elite player....

Browns, Niners, or Cowboys.....work our best deal....

trade our #30 for their 2nd rounder....swap 3rd rounders....

they jump Denver for that 2nd tier qb......we get 3 picks in top 65 or so......

Tony Pauline is saying the Browns and Broncos have talked with the Packers about moving up. Browns would get to move ahead of KC and AZ who could also take a QB. They could probably do that deal and give up the same amount that it would take to trade with us since I get the feeling Gettleman would ask for too much to move out of the 1st.

    • Completely agreed.  TBH, we have had so many great players that are in my favorite list, and I hate to narrow it down to one, but Cam is it.  Which is crazy, because you would think it would be more of the guys I grew up watching, but no.  Cam was the single most impactful player to ever out on a football uniform imo.  And like I said in an earlier post, I always felt a kinship with him in a lot of ways…  the way he was treated and judged for the off the field stuff in Florida and having to overcome all of that and fight show at back.  And although I am not a black man, I have always been welcomed by and accepted more by minorities, and thus, I know what it’s like to be judged by appearances rather than the content of your character and who you actually are.  I know what it’s like to be stereotyped and written off or mistreated for your mistakes.  I know what it’s like to be held to a different standard while your peers don’t have to meet that same standard.  So I always related to that.  And the way he came in and just electrified the whole franchise, man…  I still think about it often how much it sucks that because of how talented he was, our staff out so much on him and that ultimately cut his career short.  You’re right, there will never be another Cam…  I think Josh Allen is the closest thing we will see for a long time, but Allen is not the running threat Cam was.  Cam could run you over or around you.  That was THE absolute funnest time to watch our team ever.
    • It definitely needs more specificity than is baked in now.
    • The weirdest encounter I had with a pro athlete was waiting in line at security at Mile High Stadium when I used to get the company suite tickets almost every week because I was the only employee based in Colorado. There's a small checkpoint accessing the suites that virtually no one knows about that you can usually squirt right through. I was standing there and looked over my shoulder and there stands John fuging Elway waiting in line behind me.  This was during the The Golden Calf of Bristol season right before he became GM. I just said "They make YOU go through security?" He's like "Yeah, ain't that a bitch. I literally have a statue out front and I gotta go through security like everybody else." I've heard mixed things about him but he was super nice and down to earth with me that day.
