If It Wasn't On Your Bucket List Before, Add It Now Because It Was Already Destined To Be There, Then Mark It Off After Viewing - Prince Covering Radiohead

Your life is now one step closer to realizing fully living...  i came across this from a post from a friend on fb.  I have been a casual fan of Radiohead, and I think they are incredibly talented and unique.  The Paranoid Android video has remained a vivid memory for me since I first saw it as a preteen...  anyway, i appreciate their work.  Apparently so did Prince, and decided to make it even better.  And idk, now that he has passed and all of the stuff is finally getting posted online, there is an eerily similar feeling to Jimi thst I didn't connect before, especially in this performance...  enjoy!

Brought to you in stunning POTATO DEFINITION by the Potato growers Association of Idaho!

I know... not OPs fault.

Ive been freely and openly making the Jimi comparison for the last 15 years.  Dude had to have been one of the most underrated guitarist of his time and when he played live... the music came from a different place. Prince could emote and express with his guitar better than almost anyone. Just like Jimi.

Excellent points man.  It was always bubbling there for me as well, but perhaps because I wan't even born yet when he started his career, I only saw the parallel stylistically and aesthetically initially (the songs that brought me in as a fan were Little Red Corvette, When Doves Cry, Kiss, I Would Die 4 U,etc. -  the more pop-centric songs).  I grew up thinking Jimi was on another planet that could never be reached.  Over the years though, I read more and more about everything he did and knew how amazing he was because of his multi-instrument skill and ability to sing, write, and compose, which he was pretty much peerless in.  But, i guess because he was considered a "multi-instrumentalist," you just think how amazing that is in itself and don't realize he may be among the best EVER on each of them, lol.  It's not until i've started going through "the crates," so to speak, that I realized it.

I've kept thinking over the last few days how mad I am at myself that I missed seeing him live here in Raleigh in 2009 by probably minutes (show had started already).

dont like.  leave radio head to the experts at radio head

Thom Yorke disagrees, lol.

If you google the story behind it, in summary, because of Prince's stance on youtube and copyrights, he had all the videos of it taken down, seemingly in equal parts due to him not wanting to make profit off of it AND because it was Radiohead's property.  People kept clammoring for it and Thom Yorke was quoted as saying, "well, tell him to unblock it.  It's our f***ing song."  Lol.  Shortly after, Prince's publishing company responded to the youtuber who uploaded it and removed the copyright block allowing him to post it, while giving full credit to Radiohead in the process.  Pretty cool story.

I wish there were more of these covers as you really get a better appreciation of Prince.  He owns the song and performance from the beginning to end.

If you were around when Purple Rain came out and heard Lets Go Crazy you go oh yeah. Hendrix.

I will make this comparison that i haven't heard many say. Prince and Davis Bowie were very similar. From style anartistically to cutting their own path to the reinventing of oneself. Not to mention multi talented .

Both were cool and well respected across all genres.  While Prince was a superior musician, Bowie was an accomplished actor.

They were as genuine as you can get in an industry that churns bubblegum everyday.

To lose both so close to each other leaves a massive black hole of like minded artists and talents.

Eh, I'll give Prince respect where it's due, but that wasn't it.  He mumbled through the first 5 minutes, played one little solo, sounded like a whale for two minutes, and then solo'd out at 7 minutes in.

Don't get me wrong, he's a FANTASTIC guitarist, but he used the song because it would be easy to groove/jam to.  He didn't make it better because of a solo or two.
