ESPN Post Draft Power Rankings

I thought these were pretty funny.

1. New England Patriots

2015 record: 12-4
Post-free agency ranking: No. 1

The top two teams have switched places since we did this in February, which tells you our voters are huge fans of either Josh Norman or Jimmy Garoppolo. Seriously, the Pats have averaged 12.5 wins a year for the past 13 years, so no one's going broke assuming they'll be good. But ... pass rush? Running game? The 2nd Circuit Court? Has this New England offseason really been that great?

2. Carolina Panthers

2015 record: 15-1
Post-free agency ranking: No. 2

It's easy to forget how good the Panthers were last year, mainly because no one ever seemed to buy it while it was happening. This is a team that could lose four games off its 2015 win total and still win its division by three. But Cam Newtonshould be fine with these rankings as long as he can't overhear any Patriots players explaining why they're ranked No. 1.

3. Green Bay Packers

2015 record: 10-6
Post-free agency ranking: No. 6gn-arrow.png

Key additions: DT Kenny Clark, OT Jason Spriggs. Key losses: Eddie Lacy's gut. Last year's Packers won 10 games without Jordy Nelson and more or less without Lacy. There are worse bets than Aaron Rodgers turning it around in 2016.

4. Seattle Seahawks

2015 record: 10-6
Post-free agency ranking: No. 4

Seattle Seahawks: Using three of your 10 draft picks on running backs doesn't scream, "We're sold on Thomas Rawls!" and it's hard to see how Russell Wilsoncan thrive behind this offensive line. But they didn't have Marshawn Lynch or a line last year, either, and Wilson led the league in passer rating because he's the NFL's Harry Potter.

5. Arizona Cardinals

2015 record: 13-3
Post-free agency ranking: No. 3rd-arrow.png

How are they not No. 1? What's not to like here? Just because Carson Palmer is 36 and went Full Delhomme in the NFC Championship Game doesn't change the fact that no team is both deeper and better coached. Underestimate now, but don't act all shocked in September when you look up and no one can cover all of their receivers.

ROFL!!!

It really is nice that our blowout of the Cards in the NFCCG can transform a terrible Panthers' moment into something that it's possible to laugh about.   It really was appropriate that it was the Cards we rolled over and forced into so many turnovers.  Full Circle.

Yeah, couldn't decide what was funnier, that or  'Key losses: Eddie Lacy's gut'.

Only issue is, every Power Ranking has the Broncos out of the Top 5 it seems.

They'll be highly motivated for that first game again.  God, and Mike Remmers will still be our RT.  Sigh.  Welp, at least there's alcohol.

beerfunnel.gif <--- That's me whether it's a Panthers TD or Cam getting sacked.  Just a little game I like to play where it's impossible for me to lose.

I'm willing to put money on Williams being our starting RT this year with Remmers sliding back into a reserve and utility role.

I'm willing to not put money on it, because it better fuging happen.

I'm pretty sure it was slated to happen last year before his injury. Williams was continually seeing more and more snaps, while playing much better than Remmers overall, before he went down.

CBS's power rankings has us 6th, while cardinals are 2nd

    • I mean, if Moore really wants out, then it would behoove the Bears to make it happen sooner than later. X is a lot younger and cheaper, and may be a better fit for Johnson's musings than a disgruntled, unnecessary, overpaid vet. If they can dump his salary and maybe get a fourth or so in return, it may be worth it to them. As for development, I'm not concerned. You're talking about a seeming bust, a day three guy and a UDFA. They are developing relative to their ceilings. I doubt any of them will ever command the coverage, money, or the respect that Moore has acquired. He's a tier above them. Yes, even X.
    • IMO, if Ceedee plays against us, the game probably goes the other way. Same with Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins. Our team just isn't designed to beat teams with two high level receivers like that. But when you look at the league, how many teams really have two guys of that caliber?  There's nothing wrong with defensive adjustments, but sometimes I think a lot of fans want Evero to call a different play like a game on madden, and defensive football just isn't like that. That said, I thought we did a much better job this season against the Cowboys of flipping Jaycee and at least making them work for it, opposed to last season when they literally just lined CeeDee up on the other side of the field every single snap.  For us to just straight up switch to consistent man coverage, or a different zone, or whatever, we likely would consistently need different personnel on the field. Doing it a few times a game is a gamble and can work, but if we consistently run man coverage against the Cowboys, eventually a RB is going to beat a linebacker, or something of that nature with our personnel. Part of the reason Evero likes this scheme is that, while we have our defaults and presets, what we do is very multiple, and you can do a lot of different things pre and post snap. We are a challenging defense to read. But as you said, if guys are getting beat, it doesn't really matter what you call.
