No one will trade a high level pick for him because he still has to sign a big contract aftterwards. A player for player trade would benefit us more

If you work a deal early in the season, they're getting a 1mil player for this season and the cheapest possible shot at him before he's a free agent. They'll alsoThey'll also get his comp draft pick if the receiver lets him walk in a season or two.

brandon marshall has been traded three times now

I'll give you the other three- but THREE players in the whole league

Marshall is still one of the best in the league

The real question is, who else do you spend the money on?  We let Norman walk for a reason.  Star won't command that kind of money.  Sure, Turner and Norwell need to be locked up, but guards are somewhat affordable compared to other positions.  Stewart's huge cap hit will come off the books soon, and most of our other core is locked up.

If you are going to spend on a player, you do so on franchise QBs, MLBs, and pass rushing DTs.  A DT who can get double digit sacks is rare.  Pay the man.  He is worth it.

While I get the sentiment, and want to pay KK...I fully understand GMan wanting/needing to save the extra couple million a year. We're flush with cap space (it seems) for now for the first time in years. But in the next couple of years, we could have PLENTY of either big deals, or decent sized deals if we want to keep a lot of our talent.

2017- Norwell, Philly, Klein, Remmers, Addison, Coleman, CJ, Ginn, KK, Oher.

A lot of these guys won't break the bank, but say we re-sign 7 out of those 10 guys. Could be, what, 40-50 million?

2018 - Bene, Boston, Turner, Kony, KB, Star, Gano, TD, and Stew.

Stew is probably done here, and TD probably retires. But Bene, Turner, Star, Kony, and KB?  Hell, Kony and KB could bring 25-30 million combined by themselves in this future market if both play to their potential. Bene, Turner, and Star probably get another 25.

So in just the next two years, there's potentially 100 million or so in contracts....without re-signing everyone listed or depth guys.

So you resign Kony to a 10 million plus contract but don't sign one of the leagues best DTs?  I get what you are saying.  There will always be guys to sign, resign, release, etc. Thats the nature of the business side of football.  But a team built with a pass rush first philosophy needs to invest in its pass rush.  We lose KK, all of a sudden our back 4 look terrible and we don't even have an identity as a football team. He is our best pass rusher.  And one of the best in the NFL.  When you find talent like that who fits our system and philosophy, you pay him and sacrifice the other positions if need be.  That's what we did with Norman.  He's good, maybe great, but he didn't fit our philosophy and therefore wasn't worth the money.
