Updated roster projection - Post Minicamp

Great write up!  I too believe that they will try to stash the UDFA's as well as a couple of last year's acquisitions on the practice squad this year.  They will probably lose a few to other teams but that's what happens when you are stacked with depth.  It's a good problem to have.

I would be surprised if they kept only five LBs or had as many as eleven DBs. Under Rivera the Panthers have never opened with fewer than six linebackers ('11 - 8, '12 -7 , '13 - 6, '14 -6, '15 - 6), and they have never opened with more than ten defensive backs ( ('11 - 9 (5cb/4s), '12 -9 (4cb/5s) , '13 - 10 (6cb/4s), '14 -9 (4cb/5s), '15 - 9 (4cb/5s)).

Your projection after mini camp last year projected 11 dbs as well (they kept 9). Maybe non-contact drills make the guys in the back look better than when they get in pads?

I still can't see us keeping 10 Oline.  Either Foucault or Hawkins are decent and we keep one of them as #9 and one of them on the PS, or we sign a Free Agent as #9 and keep one or both of Foucault / Hawkins on the PS.

Especially with the new PS rules allowing 4 guys with 2 accrued seasons, I think we'll see more borderline guys who are valuable depth and might have a slim shot on the 53 (Bersin, Norwood, Foucault, Wegher ....)  instead be stashed on the PS.  We may lose a few of them, but I think there are other players ahead of them who need the reps they'll get by being on th5 53.

Can't imagine us not keeping 6 LBs - both for ST and given that we may lose Klein after this season. -  I'm thinking they may want to be grooming Mayo with more defensive snaps, thus less ST snaps.

Ed Dickson may be in trouble.

You've obviously seen more than us, but put me in the corner of shocked if Simonson makes the roster and Dickson doesn't. Not only did Dickson make the roster last year, he also played a lot of snaps. It will be interesting to see how this develops. With Olsen still around, I figure it all comes down to who the best blocker is.

If Sandland proves to be the second best TE on the team and gets the second amount of snaps after Olsen, who would you keep as the third TE? Simonson or Dickson?

    • One thing about it, he's not thinking about retiring. I found it odd that some Huddlers were taking rumors and running with them, imagining a slow down and "up-playing" injuries. Moton feels great and is still in his prime according to him, and his game is still indicative of his thoughts.  Sure, it may ultimately come down to economics, but I am sure that everyone involved is motivated to keep him in Charlotte.
    • I think the knee stuff with Moton has been blown way out of proportion. The exact quote was “It’s chronic stuff. Most linemen deal with it. But it’s just figuring out what we can do to make sure it’s limited and I’m still able to explode off it, which right now I can and I feel like I can in the future,” After a while, you start learning more about it and what can we do to make sure it’s as little of an issue as possible. I feel like I’m moving like I was when I was younger.” I don't view that as a guy who's saying his knees are on their last leg I see that as a 10-year NFL olineman saying that obviously after 10 years of playing a really physical sport, he's never truly gonna be 100% healthy again and he's gonna need to spend more time with the training staff to ensure his body can continue to perform at a high level. I think Moton has another 3 to 5 years left if he wants to continue playing.
    • So much crying. Tiresome. All of you should have had enough time to come to terms with the team picking up his 5th year...
