Former NFL RB, Zurlon Tipton, accidentally kills himself

Well, it was bound to happen. Zurlon Tipton, a pretty much unknown player who used to be a backup RB in Indy, did what Plaxico Burress and Aqib Talib luckily didn't do. Tipton killed himself---not in a club---taking a bag with two guns in it out of his car before he had it serviced.

It's such a crazy way to die. I know others outside of NFL players have done it, but I can't help but think that perhaps gun safety classes should be incorporated as a regular option for players (rookies), many of whom may really be concerned with security considering their profession and specific circumstances. 

I hate to see someone so young die because of a preventable freak accident (oxymoron though that may be).

It's totally preventable if you follow simple gun safety rules. You don't drive/walk around with a loaded weapon in a duffel bag. Unless you are carrying it on your person it shouldn't be loaded. 

That being said, this is incredibly sad and my condolences to all of his friends, family and teammates.

Actually the rule on gun safety is you don't load a gun until you are ready to fire it. Unless you are a police officer or carrying a weapon because you may have to use it at a moment's notice even carrying it on your person it is not recommended to be loaded. Safeties by their very nature are bound to fail sooner or.later and like in this case can misfire if dropped. Most gun ranges don't allow loaded guns to be brought in to their facility. They have to be unloaded to be carried into the facility.

I don't have a horse in this race but I know enough about handguns to know that "bound to fail sooner or later" is BS, unless "later" amounts to a couple hundred years of daily use.

This is a common sense issue, no class is ever going to help a situation like this. The gun should not be loaded, don't need a class to know that...the majority of people know this without a class.
