Now that The Golden Child has signed his record-breaking NFL contract

NFL.com is putting on their Golden Child full-court press.

Quote

It wouldn't shock me if ... Andrew Luck records 320-plus fantasy points: Luck was a disappointment last season, but he was on pace to score 299 fantasy points in limited time. He could be a very nice bargain, and he doesn't have to worry about a new long-term contract.

Oh, and that same article gives us this:

Quote

It wouldn't shock me if ... Cam Newton's fantasy points decline: I'm not talking about a small decline either, as I can envision a scenario where he goes from 389.08 points (2015) down to around the 320-330 point range this season. Superman will still be awesome, but maybe not as awesome.

End Around: Andrew Luck is the best bargain in sports

Top Comeback Player of the Year candidates for 2016

1) Andrew Luck, QB, Indianapolis Colts

How will Andrew Luck, Cam Newton and Russell Wilson rank in 2021?

Quote

Adam Schein: For me, Luck is the best quarterback. While Cam Newton and Russell Wilson are special players, Luck is an elite talent, and that makes him the clear No. 1.

Charlie Casserly: If we're talking about abilities as a pocket passer, I'll take luck.

Even when you get a guy that picks Cam, he makes it clear its distasteful to him to do it.

Quote

Greg Rosenthal: Hard to pick just one, but pressed, I'll go with Cam. This pains me to answer.

I'm sure it does, Greg.  I'm sure it does.

And then, outside the area of The Golden Child, they're warming up their "why Carolina is going to fail" memes.

The Panthers will miss the playoffs

The one thing Carolina has going for them? A near-perfect season did not dismantle their coaching staff like some of the most recent en vogue teams in the NFL who have reached the big game. Both coordinators are still intact and nearly all of the core players who propelled Carolina to a 15-1 record last year are still in place.

But these are irresponsible July predictions, and I intend on being more irresponsible than the rest of my colleagues. Carolina succeeded last year thanks in part to some perfectly hand-selected veteran role players who helped keep the team looking forward. Some of those players are gone or still have not been re-signed. The running game that greased Carolina's offensive success is a year older, with lead back Jonathan Stewart pushing 30, and the secondary could be starting rookies at two of three cornerback positions after losing Josh Norman to the Redskins. -- Conor Orr

Oh, look!  It's our good friend Conor Orr!

Why do people act like we just got good or something? We've been to the fuggin playoffs 3 straight years, have won 3 straight NFC South titles, have a 34-13-1 record last 3 years, and have been to the superbowl. Where is this sh*t coming from?

unexpected 12-4 with a first-game exit, 7-8-1 playoff appearance and win over terrible cardinals team, 15-1 and legit season. obvious choice for regression. gotta expect this kind of talk until we string multiple winning seasons and playoff appearances together. media also loves brees and ryan so that makes us a popular pick to stumble and miss the playoffs.
