Are the Panthers receivers just average?

Do you really need a high priced big time receiver?  Name a top 5 receiver that's been on a Super Bowl winning team recently.

Closest I can think of was maybe Santonio Holmes with the Steelers and he was probably only Top 10 at his position at the time if even that. Controlling the line of scrimmage is always better.

i think last year the receivers played better as a whole than you might imagine if you just evaluated them each, individually.  we still don't match up well to some of the better units in the league, but olsen/benjamin has the chance to be one of the better te/wr duos.  funch can become a very solid #2.

The answer is all in the drops

Sure, there were some untimely drops...but Cam still had enough talent around him to help elevate him to earn league MVP.

cant wait to see what he does with KB back, an improving Funchess and what should be more chemistry between Cam and our other receivers.

Those first 3-tiers of Olsen, Funchess and KB are gonna be nightmare match ups as we ground and pound, moving the chains.

That just means those other quarterbacks couldn't get him the ball to max his ability.

That means that he got beat out in practice by other receivers. John Brown as a rookie took Ginn's spot even though he was getting paid way more.

Again I am not at all concerned about other teams or what he did or didn't do in the past. The NFL stands for not for long and that includes the past. He was our number 1/2 last year and was very productive. That is a testament to our offensive coaches and scheme. In fact his best years are with us. You can say it is because he sucks while I say that we have figured out how to use him and have a productive scheme that makes the most of who we have.

Can't argue with that ranking. We don't have any superstar names out there but they show up and put in work and keep getting better. Doesn't hurt having an MVP quarterback tossing them the ball either.

The hell you can't. The only team that has a worst WR core (including Olsen) than the Panthers are the Rams, 49ers, Browns, Eagles, Chiefs, Titans, Vikings, and Saints.

The Lions and Bills are close.

The Carolina Panthers does not have a top 20 WR Core. PFF has lost its damn mind. You give Kirk Cousins or Andrew Luck the Panthers core and both would throw more Ints than TDs with our WRs.

Our side of TE and QB the Panthers offense does not scare anybody heading into 2016. Now that very well could change, but if you take Newton and put him on the Colts, that offense is No. 1. Same with the Texans, Bears, Raiders, Falcons, Giants, and Cowboys.

I cannot believe people would take the Panthers WR/TE core over any of the above. LOL Matt Ryan won't even look like an NFL QB if he threw to our guys.

I promise you if NFL QBs were secretly drafting NFL WR/TEs that the Panthers would not go off the board at No. 14. More like No. 24.

He was productive here cause he got the most targets, that doesn't mean we have a talented receiving core.

And as far as number 1 receivers go, Ginn was near the bottom in terms of yards and catches.

The Eagles, Chiefs, Vikings, and Saints are better at WR than the Panthers receivers even with KB healthy.

Ginn is a 4 at best. He runs 2 to 3 routes and survives on his speed. If he caught most of his passes, he would be considered a 2. We all know he is lucky if he catches 50% of those passes.

Funchess is inconsistent in matching up against smaller DBs. His ability to play a DB physically is lacking.

Corey Brown has enough trouble trying to keep himself from getting rattled in a game. He would be cut on most of the teams in the NFL. He does not stand out with any particular attribute at the WR position. He occasionally can take advantage of a safety with his route running when he gets that rare favorable match-up. He is non-existent when he gets jammed at the line.

Stephen Hill is the most talented WR the Panthers have on the roster. Even more talented than KB. He has yet to realize that talent on an NFL field and is a complete unknown. The only thing anyone really knows about Hill is his penchant to fail with the Jets and his injury with the Panthers.

The one thing they all have going for them is that Cam is their QB. Cam can make all these 4s look like 2s.

Our whole offense was very low in yards because we had the shortest fields of any team in the league thanks to all the turnovers forced by our defense.   Many drives we only needed to go 40 - 60 yards to score.

Ginn may have gotten the most WR targets, but his targets were way less than most other #1 WRs and he was incredibly efficient in scoring with the limited targets he got, in spite of all the drops.

I didn't dig into it carefully, but awhile back I bookmarked a PFF article which talked about WR efficiency.  Ginn was noted as one of the best.   I might be able to provide some more stats on WR efficiency later today...

The rest of what is written here will loosely cover the third question I wanted to answer of which receivers were the most efficient on limited snaps

    • Only thing I really see it doing is possibly making Tepper listen if a different play caller can't run the offense because of limitations. New hire, someone who hasn't been watching Bryce for the past 3 years up close may be able to talk some sense if he sees that he isn't able to get the job done.

    • Not sure there is anything that will do that outside of Young actually being a legit top 12 QB. Where he won’t need excuses made for him.  It is just as likely to multiply them.
