Saints should not be scared of Cam Newton

I found this post amusing...

http://bigeasybeliever.com/2016/07/16/saints-respect-cam-newton-but-they-shouldnt-be-scared/

In it, the author writes....

Quote

This is the same Cam Newton after all, that was just a year removed from one of the worst quarterback performances of recent memory in 2014, when he couldn’t even hit the broadside of a barn with one of his passes.

Wait, what?

Cam had a bum ankle, fractured ribs, and even had a spinal injury from a car wreck. With all that, he still ranked 73th on the NFL top 100 list.

Oh Saints fans, you never disappoint.

Saints fans just mad.            Brees........one of the greatest reg season qbs of all-time...... a qb that will probably finish #1 in passing yards and #2 in TDs,    a qb whose reg season is so dominant,  it will probably land him in the HOF on the first ballot...

..........................  has never held the greatest reg season title.        League MVP.

that's a lot of fuging words to say virtually nothing.  yeah no poo if you get an all pro pass rusher having the game of his life one on one with mike remmers it's going to be a problem.  like it's some kind of breakthrough in football theory that hitting a quarterback a lot tends to shake him up.

the best part though is where he insinuates that moving stephone anthony to SAM and blitzing him is equivalent somehow.

on another note when the panthers went into the dome in 2014 couldn't the saints have essentially wrapped up the division then and there?  of course we know what happened pretty much from the first drive but i remember the mood around pantherland being pretty subdued before kickoff.

i feel like that team has a tendency to quit on payton and that's much more worrisome than any personnel or scheme issue.

Good point.

This "Denver has laid out a blueprint" bullsh*t is stupid. So I guess historically elite defenses just grow on trees now lol

Even that desperate, pathetic narrative wouldn't exist if KB is playing for Cotch and Tolbert didn't fumble after running for a first down on the other side of the field, about the only thing rarer than 17 win seasons in the NFL.

    • In May of 2026, it looks like a challenging schedule...and it probably is.  I rarely listen to the "strength of schedule" conversations that light up social media this time of year. Each year teams improve and decline. I think there's chunks of the year we need to take care of business and the week 5 bye is not desired.  I do think if we don't hit the bye week at 3-1, it's going to be a major uphill battle given the schedule in front of us. This season falls on three people, regardless of schedule strength: Canales, Bryce, Evero.  Canales: Finally can truly coach all aspects of the team and not focus with gameday prep for OC duties anymore. He drives the bus and needs to get these guys in position to win each week. There's no way vets come in and put it on the line every week to watch our QB sh!t the bed (See: SF game last year). Bryce: Despite everyone's obsession with thinking Bryce is a guaranteed extension, I think this year will truly be his "prove it" year. If he comes out the way he has the past three years, I really don't see how vets and coaches can continue to put him under center long-term. He might play out that fifth year as the starter, but I think next offseason his long-term replacement is found. I also think there's no excuses with the weapons and commitment we've made on offense to insulate him with every possible weapon.  Evero: Best personnel he's had since he's been here...no excuses. Figure out how to blitz effectively. Figure out how to use CBs whose strengths are press/man. Figure out how to utilize a talented front-7 to get the hell of the field. Outside of FS and maybe....maybe ILB, there are few weaknesses on this unit.
    • Canales can never get his teams ready in the first week of the season so far. Hope that changes or Ben Johnson is going to take his azz to school.
