Need football advice. Coaches wanted.

Hey there Huddle! So I've graduated college now and, as an amateur writer, I would like to restart my game-preview blog that I've tried the past couple years. This year, I want to give the best effort yet, and that means I need help. I've never played football, and I've certainly never coached. But my analysis will require expert opinion, and that's where the Huddle comes in. I would like to keep in touch via Huddle PM with Huddlers who have played or coached football to ask questions and begin to understand the game on a deep level. My hope is that I can find knowledgeable people for each position group in our beloved game to guide my analysis both of the Panthers and of our opponents.

So... with all that said, who in this joint has coached football? Let me know what position group you coached (if you had a specific group).

Thanks for your help everyone. :)

Hey UpstatePanther, congrats on finishing college!

I can't help, having never coarched or played, but wanted to give you a heads up about a nice resource.

A site called Inside the pylon has just dramatically upgraded their football glossary:

http://insidethepylon.com/football-term-glossary/

Here's some of what it covers.  I've only begun browsing through it, but have found it very helpful to understand more about certain formations and routes, etc.

By the way, will very much enjoy any game previews you can do.  My fall is looking to be quite busy.  I have to take on some extra work responsibilities as one of our senior staff guys will be on leave in the States for 6 months.  (He & his wife are expecting their 3rd child).

I'll still try to do a post game stats & analysis post each week, but don't think I can do much re: pre-game matchup stuff.

Oh, just thought of another helpful site.  Do you know that Sporting Charts has a "Match Up" feature where you can compare data on about 30 stats for each team side by side?

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/teams/matchup/

It is more useful a few weeks into the season after the teams have built up some current year stats...

Here, for instance is CAR vs. SEA:

http://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/teams/matchup/364-carolina-panthers-vs-361-seattle-seahawks/

One bit of advice, at some point soon, the 2015 stats will go blank from these pages as they prepare for 2016 data, so, if you think the comparison of 2015 stats for various matchups will be helpful, it might be worthwhile capturing the data via screen shots, or saving the URL as a PDF.

I was an asst special teams coach at the semi pro level while I was playing. Basically the same as saying I coached D3 but it's something. Aside from explaining a wedge, a stunt and where you line guys up depending on punt/kick coverage there's really not a whole lot to it. It's mostly awareness and fundamentals which is typically why you want your best athletes on the field for the coverages.

I would advise you to get involved at the boys and girls club level. Some of the coaches won't have a clue but out of the 4-5 per team they'll usually be at least one that can provide hands on teaching for you. At least that was my experience when I was younger.

    • to all the Low-T Betas crying about "pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza" / "we’ll get embarrassed if we admit we like it" stop the nonsense stop the embarrassment go back to watching The View with your girlfriend’s other boyfriend while eating your dry cheese-only slice like a toddler Pizza culture has not sniffed innovation in nearly a decade, a total abyss of pathetic, boring, flavorless display of culinary cowardice Do I think pineapple pizza is going to replace pepperoni and conquer the world, absolutely not Would I be excited to proudly order it anyway? hell yea and deep down you’d give up making out with your first cousin on the weekend to take a bite of a hot, fresh, pineapple slice We need to normalize pineapple on pizza to set the blocks for the future of flavor We have an up-and-coming generation of taste buds who need guidance a STUD of a topping that is COOKING a wrecking ball of sweetness that hits like a freight train a stud salty counterpart like ham or bacon to balance it a young buck of creativity for toppings that is just getting started a true #1 cheese holding it all together a solid crust foundation a sauce that is progressing It’s not perfect, it’s not traditional, but I am beyond elated with the direction pizza is going I will be in the pizzeria cheering on the boys stacking pineapple on that dough and so should you And for the national mouth breather association who will undoubtedly poo and flame everything I post… have a blessed day
    • I can't defend Richardsons failure to this point. And he is still as young as the rookies being taken this past season. I think he still could pan out.  XL is another case. I think he looked the part but some of his times and film showed he struggled separating and the fact he never showed up being good before his 5th season. Laad was my obvious choice at that point(tho I was banging the table to trade up and grab Thomas Jr when he fell into the 20s). Ladd didn't lack athleticism and had the route running and mental part to boot. Didn't see a weakness in his game expect he was smaller..
    • Surprised?  I wouldn't be surprised. I think you are missing my point. I'm not saying the Panthers won't extend Bryce.  I'm just saying that decision won't be based off one game.  This game is not going to decide if Bryce is released or given a 5-year deal.  Like, those are crazy extremes. The people who will be surprised are those who think the Panthers losing this week will automatically mean Bryce is gone in the offseason or won't be starting again for us next year, since that seems to be the only reason people are wanting them to lose.  Which is why I think it is silly to be rooting for that.  Because we can all pretend we know what the FO is thinking, but we don't.  So why not just enjoy the moment and the possibility of hosting a playoff game?  Like, what's the point of being a fan of the team if we can't even enjoy moments like this?  Just because of something that MIGHT happen in the offseason?
