Summary of last nights game

- Starters?  No problemo.  The starting WR corps is gonna be amaze-balls this year.

- Byrd dropped a punt?  If he makes the team, he won't be the starting PR.  Ginn will.

- Norwood, who I keep hoping will impress because I like what he brings size-wise and physically, was utterly unimpressive.

- Keep Bersin and Byrd, keep CAP and Wegher, cut Fozzy.  Maybe (probably) the coaches see something I don't with Fozzy.  Leadership?  I don't see it on the field anymore though. "Oh but he's a 3rd down specialist!"  Then teach CAP and/or Wegher to be a damn "3rd down specialist".  CAP has shown he's a good pass receiver out of the backfield (Wegher not so much last night).  Keep the young guys.

- The starting offense was good?  Then consider that they were doing it without their All-Pro center.  Zoinks!

- I like the young kids at CB.  Perfect?  No.  Overwhelmed because they're rookies?  Absolutely not.  They did good.  (Will be interesting to see how they do when they face a team with legitimate WRs... and they will Preseason Week 4 against the Steelers.)

- Penalties were a big problem last night.  It was ugly.  If memory serves, penalties were a big problem last preseason (and maybe the one before that too) and we got it straightened out for the regular season.  Gives me hope in that area.

- I can't condemn either young RB for not showing anything because the backup OL was so damn bad neither ever had a chance.  Letting a pass drop from your hands, however, is not the fault of the backup OL.

- Olsen is already in season forum.  Sandland impressed me with his versatility.  Simonson was up and down.  Can't say I noticed Dickinson.

- Deer sweet baby jeebus, I hope DG is scouring the country for DE depth.  (And, no, we're NOT signing Greg Hardy, just to get that upfront to you fanboyz.)  Maybe we'll play KK and Big Vern a little on the outside this year?

- Gano = good to gano.  Punting?  Needs heavy work.

Fozzy did make the special teams play of the game last night. Held back just enough to scare the guy into dropping it, then recovered the ball. "Uuuuge!"

I agree with everything except about the pass to Wegher. It was a bad pass, thrown behind him while he was flaring out to the side line.  He had to twist his body around to get a hand on it and still almost reeled it in, but the juggle was dangerous. If anyone had been near him it could have easily been an int.

Cap would have caught that... Right guys?

Pie for "Zoinks!"

Good post. Hard to evaluate the runners with that o-line performance.

Also hard to evaluate any pass catcher with Webb. Love Webb for special teams...but damn he is inaccurate.

Also it was a shame that Lucas had a poor night. He normally is a solid receiver from the TE spot. Since he still whiffs on blocks, it doesn't look good for the man.

Preseason or not, there is a positive correlation between preseason and regular season records. As a reflection of depth, I believe it was shown that we don't have as much as we would like, especially on the offensive line.

On the statement, and i'm paraphrasing, "Byrd dropped a punt, so what, he won't be punt returner". Considering that with the game on the line, in preseason, Byrd managed to get flustered enough to drop a punt before a potential game winning drive, says a lot about his readiness for the bright lights (or mostly sunshine considering we play at 1:00 PM EST a lot).

The game wasn't too big for him on any other return or reception but when it mattered most, and yes some moments matter more than others, he figuratively and literally dropped the ball. He gave himself some wiggle room but with Bersin showing sure hands and having shown the ability to be consistent in the passing game, Byrd is trying out for a PS spot again.

Watching Wegher get 8 total yards on 30 carries was fun..

Watching our offensive line get no push, one of them get completely mauled (I Initially thought it was Folkerts and yelled "Get him out of the damn game" but it wasn't) which led to Joe Webb being sacked immediately was also fun. Behind the first team offensive line, any runningback on the roster would be better.

The lack of production from Cap and Wegher is more of an indictment on the offensive line depth.
