Daryl Worley: ‘I Was Very Unimpressed With the Way I Played’

sounds familiar. they did the same thing to Norman too for his first season+. it made people think he sucked, but the coaches refused to trust him to play closer.

I thought the same thing, but my issue with this assessment is that Norman passed the eye test in terms of his fluidity, explosive movement, and aggressiveness from day one.

Worley did not look fluid, explosive, or aggressive in any way.  He looked stiff and unatheltic out there.  Maybe it's a one off and he was on an island today which left him more exposed, but I never recall Norman getting consistently beaten on routes because he couldn't close, flip his hips, or break on routes.  Norman's early issues were lack of focus and not knowing his assignments...  our corners have historically played off their man quite a bit.  He just looked bad today.  Really bad...

Bradberry and Sanchez were playing in the same system and weren't abused like that (although sanchez did blow an assignment early, he came back with a pick later).  I have a feeling the top 3 corners may end up being Bradberry, Bene, and Sanchez, but we'll see.

There it is, the classic " why are you bothered?" response when you responded to me initially. Have a great night buddy.

Will do.  You might want to take an extra Xanax.  I care about you and you seem a little on edge..........buddy.

People are so damn fickle lol

It's a rookie CB's second preseason game and he didn't even let up a deep throw or TD. ALL of the rookies are going to get burnt at some point in the season. Just let them learn from it and continue to progress and stop with the overreaction statements each time one of them underperforms.

I absolutely LOVE the fact that he is so humble though and admitting he was unimpressive. It's those players who think they never do any wrong that you have to worry about.

One positive is that Worley & Bradberry both showed a readiness to tackle and were ok in that aspect.  There had been some question about how they'd do in run support.  So far I'm reasonably encouraged.

It's good to see Bene & McClain doing well.  Gives us some flexibility in case Worley needs help on the outside.

What greatness did you see today from him?

I'm not saying he won't be good, but he's been the least impressive of our 3 rookie corners thus far.  I appreciate his honesty and humility, but that doesn't negate how bad he played.  I will say it was good that he didn't allow a deep pass, but it looked like that was his only option.  Their offense gained most of their yards going after him.

I agree with you 100 percent.  It reminded me a lot of Norman, but as you stated Norman passed the eye test.  Worley passes the Bob Barker throwing his golf club "this guy sucks" test.  Not good at all.

Well back then with Norman...Rivera would comeback and just say the coverage call wasn't soft Norman just played it poorly.

I mean, Carolina's design isn't really to let people get beat over and over.  When a QB seems a CB giving up stuff they attack it.

I don't like DBs putting it on the scheme...because like Norman back in the day it was only his side getting picked apart.  If it was scheme I think it wouldn't be so isolated given there isn't an all pro on the other side

It just reminds me of Norman during slant season....

Example: We picked apart Ronald Darby literally the entire preseason game last year(1st to 3rd string) iirc. Fast forward to the end of year.... Darby is FAR from a bust.

Give the kid some time... we aren't even game planning at the moment. When he gets his confidence, he will play faster/better. It wont be overnight but it wont be 3 years either

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
