Agree.  I figure this might just be due diligence.  We're SO thin at safety right now.

Big fan of Boston and Coleman but I do see we need depth, forbid a injury but Carolina is a smart team. They know its a long physically demanding season. Hitner can bring some explosiveness and big hits when we need to pop Devonte Freeman on a screen when were up 34-7. Guys on the sideline love those big hits... I wish we could have a cam on the bench anytime Shaq Thompson spears someone to the ground...

Yup... He's going to be signed....no doubt in my mind...gettleman intuition.

As soon as I saw the tweet, I thought about the Peanut situation last year. 

With our current front 7 .... this would actually be a big move for the secondary.

I think what they're getting at is that Coleman moves back to FS and Whitner comes in as SS.

Either way, I see your point. And the last line couldn't be truer.
