Injuries?

Here's a good injury run down from BBR

  • LG Andrew Norwell and RG Trai Turner were each dinged up on the first team offense’s final drive. Trainers wrapped ice around Norwell’s right ankle as soon as he came out and Turner was treated for a stinger.
  • RB Fozzy Whittaker and LB A.J. Klein also appeared to suffer stingers.
  • LB Thomas Davis walked to the locker room late in the third quarter with ice bags on both knees. He did seem to be in good spirits as he glanced into the crowd before he headed in.
  • LB Jeremy Cash went inside late in the third quarter to be evaluated for a concussion. The UDFA didn’t record a statistic, but he appeared with the No. 1 punt, punt return and kickoff return teams before he came in with the second team defense. Cash did tweet this after the game:  (tweet from Cash saying he's fine and looking forward to week ahead)
  • P Mike Scifres, who was making his preseason debut, injured his kicking leg when he was run into by Patriots’ DB Brandon King. After the penalty, Scifres stayed on for the redo, but his punt went just 21 yards. Kasey Redfern replaced Scifres the rest of the way.
  • TE Greg Olsen was held out, despite coach Ron Rivera hinting during the week that the Pro Bowler might play after getting over back spasms.  “It was decided during the week we weren’t going to play him, we were just going to work him hard,” Rivera said. “He’s going to work hard this week as we prepare for the next game and the opener.”
  • S Travell Dixon, who practiced twice this week after suffering a chest injury Saturday in Tennessee, didn’t play. With Trenton Robinson (pec), Dean Marlowe (hamstring) and Marcus Ball (knee) also out, the Panthers had just three safeties active (Kurt Coleman, Tre Boston, Colin Jones).
  • WR Philly Brown, who took a hit on his surgically repaired left shoulder during Tuesday’s practice, was held out.
  • DE Rakim Cox (back), OL Chris Scott (shoulder) and WR LaRon Byrd (concussion) also didn’t dress.

    • Yup. Hopefully  Brandon adds some muscle this off-season but he'll probably be resting his shoulder for a while so I doubt it. Miles should probably be replaced but I don't think we find a better 4th option to be honest. So is it better to add depth along side williams and Coby or try to upgrade the 4/5 . I think adding depth will probably be more beneficial than trying to upgrade starters and bank on Brandon and Kons continuing development. I really don't think they are going to make the playoffs unfortunately. I think the big hole they put themselves in has exhausted them. They've been amazing since January 1 but I think it's come at a cost and their legs are gone.
    • The issue is the predictability of it all in a Bryce Young led offense. In 4th down attempts the Jets were at 41 and we were at 40. And we were 4th in conversation %. We were 25th in the league in 3rd down conversion because we faced so many 3rd and longs in part due to playcalling on 1st and 2nd down but more largely due to the limitations that cannot be overcome.  And people want us to spend another 1st rounder on WR as if it is going to magically give Bryce physical talent he will never possess. It's a shame we cut off our own nose just to put ourselves in this frustrating predicament.
