Now that we have our roster, who's inactive Thursday

With the talent on this roster, which 7 don't get to play? Your guess is as good as mine, but barring unexpected injuries here's what I have.

Offense: Simonson and Bersin are the weakest links at their positions. Hawkins, and Larsen here since Gino can provide Guard backup as well as center. This concerns me since our O-Line depth is already frightening.

Defense: Norris, I didn't expect him to make the team anyway. LaVar Edwards needs to learn the system. Cash won't see the field at LB, and is replaceable on ST. I know that this is going to cause an uproar, but who else you gonna sit this week? Is Marlowe still injured? This would leave us way thin at Safety with only Jones providing backup (yikes). DT and DE rotate, so we need those 8. Teddy Williams is only on the team to play ST, so I don't see him getting benched.

If Marlowe is a no go, it sounds like Ron will call up Marcus Ball from the PS as emergency safety.  (He's making the trip to Denver) He mentioned it in today's press conference.

As for inactives, I'll guess:

Norris

Cash

Larsen OR Hawkins

Lavar Edwards

Byrd

Bersin OR Simonson

Worley OR McClain

It's a very tough call on a few of those.

WR5 can be manned by Webb in case of emergency so Byrd and Bersin both sit. 5 LBs is plenty so Norris and Cash sit. Williams covers both OT spots and Gradkowski and Larsen cover the interior so Hawkins sits. Edwards is too new so Delaire gets the nod as DE4. Bene will play the nickel and Colin Jones can be a backup there as well as safety so McClain sits so Williams can play STs. Simonson is active since I'm fairly certain we always like to have 3 active TEs when possible. If Marlowe can't go then I think we cut one of Norris, Bersin, Cash or Byrd to activate Ball from the PS and Marlowe is then one of the 7 inactives then we cut Ball and re-sign the guy who was cut to make a spot on Monday.

Sitting McClain would not be wise. He is better than Worley at this point

I agree and McClain gives us a backup PR in case something happens to Ginn but I'm just posting what I think will happen. Teddy Williams would be my personal choice to sit amongst the CBs since he's pretty useless on defense and penalty time bomb on ST but the coaches seem to really like what he does on ST.

CAP

McClain

CAP was inactive for most of last year. Nothing in front of him has changed at all.

I'd rather have CAP up than Fozzy purely on matchup.  I think you run at Denver between the tackles.   Stewart might not be ready for 4 quarters of bringing the noise in that altitude.   CAP IMO is the 2nd best between the tackles runner we got.

Tolbert is the between the tackles backup. Fozzy is the changeup

you know me and 30 yr old RBs.

I'm not as big on Tolbert as some anymore.  A lot of games he takes a LONG time to hit those holes.  He also had what 2 fumbles last time vs Denver?   I'd still prefer the young between the tackles runner.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing more fun than watching a fat guy run with a 10 yard headstart.....and someone trying to come at him.

I agree with you, but I am just going off what rivera has said. Fozzy and Tolbert are the second string backs. CAP is the third. if one is inactive its fozzy.

    • Would you just fuging quit trying to make us like him? That is his job, not yours.  Thank you.
    • Rookie season being key to uour argument. I didn't at all mislead about the talent Cam had to work with. Kalil was a great center. Olsen was a great TE. Our WRs were probably the worst in the league. Cam still won MVP, we went 15-1, and we went to the SB. Your attempt to bring up Cam to defend Bryce is desperate and clownish. Bryce has more talent to work with and has done WAY less.
    • Not exactly sure that is an honest assesment of the talent he had to work with that year. Olsen had over 1100 yards that season making the PB, Stewart had close to 1100 total yards also going to the PB. He had Kalil at C who went to the PB, Trai Turner at RG who also went to the PB, and Michael Oher at LT who played well enough that the Panthers offered him a new contract the following year. I wouldn't call that a trash OL. He also played with a defense that was stacked with talent as well.   "The thing we are doing better this time around is actually surrounding our #1 overall draft pick QB with talent vs. asking him to completely carry the offense. I just hope that effort is leading us to realize that the guy isn't even good enough to get carried." Please.... Did you not read the list of names Newton had to work with his rookie season. I guess you missed it so I will post it again for you... Steve Smith (PB), Greg Olsen (PB), Brandon LaFell, Ted Ginn JR, Deangelo Williams (PB), Jonathan Stewart (PB), Jordan Grossn (PB), Ryan Kalil (PB) on the offensive side and then he had Luke Kuechly (PB), Jon Beason (PB), Thomas Davis (PB), Star Lotulelei, Kawann Short ( PB ),Charles Johnson, Greg Hardy (PB ), Mike Mitchell, Josh Norman (PB)  For comparison, here is who Young had his first year.  Chuba Hubbard, DJ Chark, Jonathan Mingo, Adam Thielen, Hayden Hurst, Ikem Ekwonu, Chandler Zavala, Bradley Bozeman, Nash Jensen and Taylor Morton. Not a single PB player on the list and most of them aren't even playing any longer. Additionally, his HC was fired during the season and the defense was as bad as the offense.  You might not like the comparison but saying Newton had to completely carry the offense isn't exactly fair to the 4 pro bowlers on offense who played with him that year.
